Default Radar detector comparison tests against photo radars in EU.

I'm always envious when read tests results from USA. There are great distances of detection. Unfortunately my experiences are very different. Here (in Hungary) are low powered mobile photo radars only, installed on police or covert cars. I've decided to tests some detectors against european radars (Ku,K,Ka narrow bands).

There will be independent observer from Copcars, Hungary because I'm a distributor. I will post our results as soon as possible. I'm afraid that it takes a little bit long time because here isn't any fixed speed trap and it's hard to find a specific police car on the road. The K band (24.125GHz) is the most common radar, the thest against that will coming soon.

Added: You should find test-results on the 2nd page, posted on Sat Aug 06, 2005.

Remember to test the Escort 8500 X50. I compared the V1 (non EUR), RX65 and X50 and found the X50 to have the best photo radar performance overall. The RX65 was similar, but I had problems with it not detecting a few times, which scared me and made me lose confidence in it. It also broke down twice with "SERVICE REQUIRED" on 2 different new units, so that also made me lose confidence. I still have the 3rd unit here, which works fine, so I dont know if I'm unlucky or what with the RX65, but others have reported similar SELF CAL and SERVICE REQUIRED error messages. X50 is fine so far.

Unfortunately I have no Escort: I never bought that because it can't detect Ku band. The only detector which I have without Ku band is a Cobra ESD9210. By the way my V1 and RX65 also aren't the newest unfortunately because I've bought them 1.5 years ago.

    I've checked softwares: my RX-65 has 2.8 and my V1 has 1.8 (3.813) version.

    Default RoadTest 14/06/05

K band (24.122GHz) stationary constant-on radar from behind

Environment: City area, curved 6-line-road with light traffic in the evening. Average warning distances calculated from 3 measurings, average accuracy of measuring was 8m. Detectors were with City mode where available. Test results are below.

    1. BEL/Target EVO966: 324m
    2. Cheetah: 254m [city]
    3. Valentine1: 241m [A]
    4. BEL/Target Euro330HU: 200m [city]
    5. BEL/Target Euro550: 191m [city all]
    6. BEL RX-65: 121m [city noX]
    7. Quintezz XT-7000: 0m [city] (2/3: warning distances were 0)
    7. Cobra ESD-9210: 0m (3/3: warning distances were 0)
    7. Catch-i: 0m (2/3: warning distances were 0; 1/3: not detected)

We weren't able to do any test with Quintezz XT-8000 (built-in) unit because 3 of 3pcs make K band alerts continuosly always and everywhere.

    Independent observer: Copcars, HU (http://www.sebessegmeres.info/)

The RX65 is way past 2.8...

EDIT: meaning that is a very old software version. Needs an update.

EDIT2: Of course your response was low for the RX65! You had it in City NoX!

Yes: I bougth that 1.5 years ago because I was curious to its performance. But it should be costly a little bit to send back that to USA for an upgrade and mainly I don't use my RX-65.

Yes2: staff of Copcars needs that all detectors have to run with City mode if exists because this part of test was in downtown.

(Out of this comparision test: I found average warning distance against K-band photo radar with RX-65 300m from front and 127m from behind at Highway mode.)

    Response to Yes2:

NoX is the lowest sensitivity mode for the RX65. Had you been in low or even standard mode you would have recieved better sensitivity/distance. No one requires you to run it in city mode, you can set it to highway if you wish as well.

The RX65 would have probably performed better if highway mode was used and X-band was disabled in the menu instead of using City No-X. I would repeat the test as the performance would probably improve dramatically. With low powered photo radar around, I would be in highway mode all the time anyway.
