Default When is Car and Driver doing their next test?

Just wondering if they will do a Great Detector Test again soon, since the V1 and the 8500 have both been updated.

2002 was a long time ago.

I would like to know the same thing.
GuruReports is supposed to have a test out, was supposed to be in late '04 but last I saw it will be released sometime in '05:

If anyone doesn't know much about GuruReports, they did a car wax test that generated a lot of controversy on some car boards...

Heh, if you want to start a really long thread on a car board, just post something like:

    "I'm a newbie, and I have a few questions:

    What is the best wax?
    What is the best oil?
What is the best radar detector?"

Ya Mike V. needs another "unbiased test" so that he can base all his advertising on it and "diss" everyone else..Especially when the main guy that oversees the tests at C/D is on Valentine's payroll and always has been... :P Guess who will win the next radar detector test.... I will even predict the scores for you all..

    Valentine1.........98% out of 100% maybe 99%

    Escort.........82% of 100

    Bell.........67% of 100%

Everyone knows that Zaino is the best car polish, V1 is the best radar detector, and Lexol is the best for leather, windex and newspapers and best for windows, armor all the best for tire dressing, Mobile 1 best oil.

Here's another angle:Klasse topped with Pinnacle Souveran (or S100 to go cheap); Stoner's Invisible Glass for windows, Meguire's Endurance for tires. GM for vehicles (oops did I say that out loud?) just kidding joop :P

I'll definitely have to agree though about the oil and the detector

Here's the real run down (i.e. what I say are the best).

First off, Klasse is good, the method that "test" says is the best way to apply wax is horrific. You know you're dealing with a bogus company when they recommend a clay bar (yes, Griot's has some good stuff, but they're pretty much a bunch of rip off artists). Stoner's invisible glass was the worst glass cleaner I ever used. I really wish I had lost the money rather than spend it on that. Meguire's Endurance: meh, it's meguires, not bad not great...though watch out for their wheel cleaner. There was a class action suit because it'll stip the paint off your wheels (did to mine, but I wasn't in on the suit). Oil...Mobil 1 ain't bad, but oil is actually somewhat engine specific (well, not engine, how you drive). If you don't do much highway, go with Amsoil since they have less ash.

Now that we are done with where I disagree, how about what I like?
Wax: very very car/storage/driving situation dependant. Recommending a wax is like recommending...um, I dunno...something that is very individual dependant. Lexol is one of the best for leather. There are other, much more expensive ones, that are good, but I'd venture to say no better so not worth the cost. As far as glass, two choices: One Grand if you like a pump, Wurth if you like aerosol. Armor-all is not good for tires or dashboards etc. It's great probably 60% of the time, but 40% of the time it will literally ruin your rubber/plastic/vinyl product. I don't know what chemical has to be present for armor all to disagree with it, but when it does, it's nasty (DON'T use armor all in a 64.5 Mustang). I like One Grand ERV, though the best for seals is Wurth (Wurth does just about everything best...let's face it, the German's got us beat on cars).

Oh, and a plug for my favorite car care store, www.carcareonline.com. Larry actually knows something about cars unlike those GuruReports people.

I still find it odd that VR's website tells of V1's superiority to inexpensive detectors, with a September 1995 issue of C/D to back them up...

I have the issue in question, it clearly stated V1 was the best, but the bar graphs to show range were not large enough to cover the entire V1 range, which the article stated...

    It's a 10-year old test!
