The other day, I got together with Bigwill41 and we tested his Whistler Pro 78SE against my Kustom Golden Eagle radar unit (Ka 35.5). We wanted to see how much of a difference having POP ON vs. OFF would make.
1. We found a straight, flat dead end that was lined with trees. At the end of the road, I positioned the Golden Eagle's radar antenna off to the side of the road so that the unit's signal would go into the trees. If I hadn't of done this, the Whistler would've "outdetected" our test course.
2. The Whistler was mounted in Bigwill41's vehicle. He would start rolling down the course very slowly. As soon as the Whistler would detect the signal, he would hit the brakes and signal to me that the Whsitler had detected the signal.
3. To measure how far the Whistler detected the signal, I stood parallel to my vehicle and shot Bigwill41's vehicle with my LTI Truspeed to get a distance reading.
