This is not a V1 vs. Belscort thread.... if it does become one feel free to lock it. THis is just based on my opinion and real world experience.
Got back to using the V1 tonight. Was driving in the city and so for the first time I programmed the mute function.
Using Logic mode:
-Mute for 30 Sec
-Un-mute at 4 bars
I go around to the usual spots where I get K and X falses, V1 alerts a few yards before the 8500 did (approx 1-2 seconds)
The V1 did alert so much more then the 8500 but with the settings it stayed mute... when I know its a false I press the mute button before it even goes to full alert
What I really miss is the full mute function of the 8500, I know with the V1 you can fully mute it but when its mute you have no idea what band is alerting anymore. With the screen of the 8500 tells you the band so even at full mute you know what band it is and what strength
Bogey counter, yeah its nice to have a bogey counter but you donít know how many of which band (does it even matter) I like the expert mode of the 8500 but I donít like how each band is limited. 2 each for Ka and K is not enough. 4 for X is too much!
Ka- bothe detectors are amazing with Ka, I have had unbelievable detection range with both the 8500 and V1... people are going to bash me for this but I think the V1 and 8500 are head to head in Ka. (8500 really surprises me with Ka-- maybe I have a factory freak)
Arrows..... No doubt its a gift from the heavens! No need to comment on this!
Anyway they each have their strengths and weaknesses, I will feel comfortable driving with any of them on my windshield.
It really all comes down to what type of driving you do.
I also feel the V1 is for a more die hard radar detector user. I have a friend who doesnít care what type of radar he uses (8500) just as long as it alerts... he doesnít understand why I have to spend $400 for a detector plus on top of that buying another one.
8500 is something I would buy for my dad or uncle... all the alerts are spelled out with bars that are easy to read.
Man this is a long post!
8500 and V1 are both great detectors!
