Default Valentine 1 version 1.8 - Chicken Little of Radar Detectors

Interesting review of the Valentine 1 radar detector was just published in the November 22nd issue of Autoweek magazine. They rated the new V1 as the chicken little of radar detectors because of all its false alerts and state that the average driver would end up tuning out all alerts because of all the false ones.

I agree with that 100% and not because I no longer own one but because this is the truth. I have no reason to bash ANY detectors. I am just like the rest of the people that want the BEST especially if one is going to fork out 100's of dollars. Just like the majority I agree 100% that the Escort 8500 X50 is the best in the market. Good jon Escort and good job Roy for only telling the truth!

It is SO STUPID (and unfair too ...) that You don't have to wrestle with Spectre issue

    Default "Chicken Little V1"

Autoweek also said that if they were on a long trip, this (V1) might be the unit they preferred.

Are Autoweek staff confusing "false signals" with X and K door openers, which are real radar signals? If so, then their argument holds little value. Perhaps the 8500 et.al., which have been proven to be clearly inferior to V1 on X band, are good at rejecting "false signals" because of this fact, plus heavy X band filtering. As for this V1 user, I'll take a few door openers, but I'm not willing to sacrifice warning range.

Does the V1 (v1.8 ) react to other detectors occasionally? Absolutely. I've been a V1 owner for 5-6 years and I'll be the first to say it does. It is, however been something I've learned to live with and have become very adept at interpreting the fasle Ka reports. It has become little more than a nuisance.

I have just purchased another V1- the V1p. I haven't had it on the road very long, but this time I believe they have squashed the falses from other detectors.

Is it worth the $55 to do a factory upgrade. I believe so. I also plan to upgrade my other V1 as soon as I can verify (it won't be long  )that Ka detection range has not decreased with this latest revision and addition of POP detection.

I've had really good luck with my 8500 X50, it can pick up K band photo radar in many cases close to a mile away. I've not had any local police so far actually use a radar gun near me, I think they have better things to do.

I did notice a few false alarms around certain gas stations and drug stores, the type of pattern it produces is different then a photo radar signal. The false alarms tend to be very short lived and of a very low strength. After about a week with the unit I was able to tell the difference between false alarms and the real thing. I've only had it do multiple signals once so far. It makes a very distinct dual overlapping tone.

Overall I love it. I had one of the high end Whistlers before this, and the difference is night and day. I would recommend the X50. One of my brothers had a V1 before it got stolen, he also liked it. Overall the X50 appears to get slightly better reviews. I have to go with the majority.

I also was wondering about the "chicken little" statement since Autoweek indicated they'd prefer the V1 for long road-trips...

I'd be interested in shooter2jim's evaluation on V1p's KA range, smokey's getting pretty bad around here with that band...

Please let us know if Valentine did indeed squash falses from other detectors.

Interesting that they would pick the Solo 2, even after acknowledging the decreased range compared to it's corded sibling.

Don't know about you, but I could stash my corded detector pretty quick should the need arise.
