Default Would you respect an 85 MPH posted speed limit on rural interstate highways?

I just got to thinking about this and figured that I would put this question out here and get everyone's opinion. If most states would post an 85 MPH speed limit on rural interstate highways would you try to cheat the system by driving 90 MPH. I myself WOULD NOT try to cheat the system by driving 90 MPH. Why? Because, IMHO, 85 feels just about right for most rural interstate that I have driven granted the roads are dry and there is light to medium traffic on the aforesaid interstate. In my opinion, insurance companies have wwwwwwwaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyy too much power in this country. I sincerely believe that we could have higher limits such as those mentioned above if it were not for those darn insurance companies. So, what do you folks think about my question?

85 sounds like a nice number and make the leos use constant on

It depends on a the vehicle. Some I would not drive that fast, others, 85 would not be sufficient. You can sort of feel that sweet spot with the engine's load, suspension, etc. My Super Duty F250 there's no way I'd cruise at 85 mph (though with the tune I wrote for it the truck will do about a 14 second quarter mile). My other vehicle... it barely feels 85 mph.

I agree with you, I have a late model (old) car that most likely would not handle that kind of speed. I do not even push it above 75.

Most vehicles these days can hit 85 quite easily. My ford explorer has a red line on the spedometer @ 55mph, once I pass that magic number it becomes a whole different beast to handle. My dodge minivan however would go 90+ and hug the road like a car.

I would respect an 85 mph limit, me and my car never seem to want to much more then that as it is, so if it were legal, all would be good

There should also be a passing limit though, where it is legal to exceed the PSL by 5-10 MPH for a short period time to pass someone, that would make a lot of sense to me.

That's more or less what I usually cruise at.

With the 15 they give you in GA, an 85 MP limit would be about right.

    Let's see 85 + 14 = 99
