increible you walk away this time. that is one scary situation to be in, i remember that happen to the car i was in when my sister was driving, big semi change lanes and didnt see her and my sister over reacted and we totally did almost two 360 on the highway, u can see all the other cars try to get out of the way by going on the shoulder, grass median, it was one scary feeling, i was surprise as you are right now how you could have got away from this without a scratch, especially in a highway and at that kind of speed. now, go pray that your butt got save. lol

Flat spotted tires, but that's it. I didn't contact anything.

You know what's interesting is that I wasn't actually scared. I bet if I were a passenger I'd have shat myself, but I was too focused on what to do to be worried about it.

The unexpected lane change is a little too common, isn't it... I'm really starting to hate trucks, honestly. Less than two months ago I had one decide that he didn't want to get stuck in an intersection because of traffic in the right lane, so as I was passing him he changed lanes, without warning, in an intersection, when I was about halfway past the trailer and forced me into the turn lane for the other direction.

A couple years ago I also had one pull out from the side of the highway directly into the left lane so his buddy in front of him could get on the road too. I had already moved to the left because I saw him, but he started moving into my lane almost exactly as I passed the rear of the trailer, going about 40 MPH faster. I was lucky there was a left shoulder to serve onto or I'd have been crushed.

There was also another trucker who decided that he wanted the left lane on the highway while I was occupying it. That time I was able to make my own lane by driving down the edge of the left lane and the narrow left shoulder at the same time, with my left tires almost hanging off the road into the grass median until I could get behind him.

This wasn't a close call, but was still annoying. A couple months ago I was on the highway passing a truck that wasn't even pulling a trailer. The left turn signal came on, so I honked the horn to assert that I was there. I know sometimes they put a signal on early because it's hard to get into the other lane's traffic, but there was nobody behind me. Anyway, as I was pulling away I saw him flashing his lights like a madman, and for the remaining ten miles I was on the highway he would keep up with me no matter how fast I'd go. I have to believe it was intentional because if he was going that fast before I would never have caught up with him. Finally as I was getting off and slowing down on the exit ramp, I saw him drive halfway into the exit ramp, maintaining his speed, and then cutting back onto the highway at the last second. I'm sorry, but a turn signal doesn't indicate when you're going to move, and I've had too much bad luck before. I never intended it to be an insult to his manhood or something.

Now that I think about it, I've had more close calls with trucks than anything else. I can't remember any stories like this that involve any other kind of vehicle. I'm sure most truck drivers are decent guys out there trying to make a living, but it seems like the actual trucks are too much for some of them to handle in traffic.

Glad you share this with us. The people who don't learn from their mistakes can be very dangerous. The people who do go on to be much better and safer drivers. I will admit that I have made many mistakes too. Glad you are ok and nobody was hurt.

that is true, but u also have to remember the people driving with their cellphone on there face, i had many close calls with those people. that doesnt stop me from honkin and giving them the bird. yeah, with truckers, its hard not to avoid them, especially with the vehicle that size..but i can surely understand the truckers situation, its a big machine to control and to navigate. thats why i am especially careful when i'm close to them bc at anytime, they can just change lane and get in front of you and they wont even see u. too much weight and too much power to mess with them. be careful out there my fellow speedsters.

    I'm glad you're ok dude.

On a side note, CT state law on the highway is that merging traffic has the right of way unless they have a yield or stop sign (Merritt Pkwy). I live by this rule and do everything in my power to accommodate the vehicle(s) merging. I too expect them to look over and use a fair amount of judgement but understand that it is my responsibility to let them enter safely. Whether it be a lane change, speed up, or slow down, I do what I have to to ensure that the merge is as smooth as possible.

Sounds exciting. Was it raining? I once did a 180 with a rental on an exit ramp. That was pretty interesting going backwards at a rapid clip. But it was when full size cars were full size. And after the maneuver I checked the tires and they were almost bald.

Some truckers take out their frustrations on the civilian drivers. I had one deliberately try to run me off the road when the lanes were gradually being closed due to construction. Just because I had a rather nice sports car he sped up and blocked my merger.

Another time it happened at night here in Detroit. His “how am I driving” number was on the trailer. I called and in less than a minute his speed dropped to the PSL.

Cell phones and cameras can make your day.
