Default This a valid way of obtaining speed?

Hey guys, been a while since I posted. Anyways, coming around a corner yesterday I pick up KA band in their usual spot. However, it quickly alerted to a laser alert, and as I passed I saw him aiming through his mirror watching traffic coming towards him. Is this a valid way of obtaining someone's speed? Either way, I was quite shocked that the V1 alerted to laser before I was even all the way around the corner. It remained a laser alert til I passed by him. Thanks!

There was a big debate on this topic a number of years ago.
It was shown that you could in fact get a speed reading shooting a laser at your side mirror.
You would however, have a really good defense in court, as I doubt this is an approved method of getting a speed reading, its certainly not in the manual, and they wouldnt have taught the cop that in "lidar school."

I've seen similarly done by Independence police near Cleveland. Very sneaky!

If you want to know everything the officer must do to legally get your speed, you'll need to go to your District Court's law library and look into the appropriate book of statutes on radar and laser measures. It will cite everything in detail. Then if you ever go to court, you can put that LEO under oath as to whether or not they followed every step as required in procedure. One mistake on their behalf will authorize you to dismiss the case with prejudice.
    It's good to be back!
