Default No Alert, 8500 X50 WTH?

Me and the wife were running around today and I happened to notice something odd.

We had gone to a walmart (for those of you in DFW on 121 and Ohio in Frisco). No alert from the door openers. WTH? I figured they were using X-Band and blew it off. From my experience though, they use K at Wally World.

Anyway, off to a few other store and then we get to another walmart (380 in mckinney). no alert. I quickly reprogram the RD to enable X band, wait a few seconds for the programming to "complete" and still no alert.

Is it my detector, or are the doors not using x or k?

Do know for a fact that these locations set off your RD in past? I'd go somewhere where I am 100% sure there is a false alert and test it there.

That is very odd, the X50 (and rx65) for that matter have the self-cal/ service-req messages as you well know, so honestly they should appear if the RD is falling out of tune.

If you havent recently seen those... personally I would chalk it up to the doors being far-out of wack, because lets face it they probably dont get calibrated as often as LEO equipment (if ever), so they probably arent as close to LEO's equipment on X&K band, so if they are on the verge of falling out of tune the RD may not pick it up.

It sounds like you normally get falses in this area though, but if not, as (g-jammer said) try a 100% known area.

That is why I personally always carry another radar detector in the car (even el-cheapos, just incase this happens, take one down and test it with the other, if the 2nd picks it up... thats case closed.

Honestly try resetting the X50 (it takes maybe 2 minutes to get all the settings you have back) if you really feel the x50 is missing alerts... personally I would just let this slide right now and be more weary... as long as you havent seen the self-cal, service req messages.

It should tell you when its falling out of tune, but its an electronic piece of equipment, they seem to have a mind of their own sometimes.

Starting up my E795 in the presence of an X/K signal has (for my E795 anyways) caused it to completely miss the(ose particular) doors... just something to think about (not saying 100% thats the case).

Walk up to the door and look closely at the opener sensor. If it has a small camera-like lens inside it, it's an optical sensor rather than a radar-based sensor. The optical sensors don't set off RDs.

There are two Wally Worlds near me and one of them uses these camera-like sensors, and it doesn't set off my detectors. The other store uses the regular K band door openers.

The door is using laser ina red not radar simple answer.. your detector won't pick this signal up unless it is pointing within 18 inches of it from center due to beam width issues ... laser is hard to pick up and this proves that if you didn't have a laser jammer /veil how hard it is to beat and that you'd be screwed otherwise and if your detector does go off let me know cause thats a good one... mcdonalds also uses laser security on there back doors i used to work there and had to explain this to a kid that worked there that told me his detector would save him from a laser ticket not true. I then asked him did your detector go off at the back door he proceeded to say no i then stated well what makes you think since it didn't pick up that that your going to be able to pick up a laser atlanta at 1000ft ??? Its not going to happen unless he targets your windsheild right at the detector.. given they are getting better with laser but it still is only a ticket notifier...thus a jammer is required to win... he then still stated that his detector was gods gift to the world i told him ok whatever if escort the leader in the industry can't do it what makes you think you can ..? with some walmart bought hunk o junk..! sales ploys gotta love em!! not to mention laser is used like the infa red in your tv remote now how big is that beam ?? not very infact sometimes if you don't point directly at the tv it won't change anything... ?? so the Leo is going to have something alot more syfisticated than a tv remote good luck!!

    Cool,.....

This walmart, could be using a different type of door opener. Its a "test" walmart for energy efficiency. Everything is solar powered and they have one of those tall wind generators in their parking lot.

They must have the "Super Energy Efficient Door Openers"
