    Default x-50 upradeablity

    Is the x-50 as upgradeable as the Valentine seems to be? I hate the idea of having to get a new one every few years.

    According to escort, you can send in your detector to be upgraded.

    Roy has said that there is no problem upgrading the Escort or Bel products. The consensus from most people is that the V1 is more upgrade friendly when the units change through the years. After the X50 8500 came out, Escort said that you couldn't get the 8500 a full upgrade with lights, better range, and POP protection unless you bought a whole new unit. That is just one story I have heard of where the upgrade policy of Escort seems kind of weak. That being said, I have not purchased anything through Roy but I would if I wanted Belscort or Blinder products because he seems to be a man of his word.

    So it sounds like Escort only does a software upgrade. I guess I'm SOL when they come out with a new one.

    That's absolutely correct, software only.

    Hmm... lets price the V1 and Escort upgrades.

    Valentine One ("Software" and "Hardware" upgrade):
    1.8 POP2 -> 1.8 POP2(+Euro) = $75 +SH
    1.8 -> 1.8 POP2(+Euro) = $75 +SH
    1.7 -> 1.8 POP2(+Euro) = $189 +SH
    Original V1 -> 1.8 POP2(+Euro) = $279 +SH
    New V1 1.8POP2(+Euro) = $399

    Escort ("Software Only" upgrade):
    Under warranty (1-year) upgrade = Free, Just pay S/H
    Extended warranty (3-year) = $29 for warranty, Plus S/H
    New 8500 X50 (Red) = $299

    Kai445, the point is this. People with V1's have superior performance so they don't need to upgrade all the time like people with Escorts and Bels do. People with really old V1's (1992 version) can sell them on Ebay for $250 or upgrade them if that is what they want to do. People with an old Escort like the 2100, 3200, 4200, 4500, 4600, 5000, or 6800 can maybe if they are lucky get $10-$60 on Ebay. People that have the 7500, 7500s, or 8500 cannot upgrade to an X50 without buying a whole new unit to replace it.

    Let's go back to the year 2000 to analyze the V1 and the Passport 7500 which was the latest and greatest from Escort at the time:

    Passport 7500 X band 1.9 miles, K band 1.4 miles, Ka band 1.8 miles
    Valentine One X band 3.0 miles, K band 2.6 miles, Ka band 4.0 miles

    Which one needs to be upgraded?? It appears from the test results that the 7500 needed to be upgraded as soon as it was released. I rest my case.

    Default 7500

    The 7500 I'm not impressed with, questioned all the time why I don't sell it.

    I don't think that V1 vs 7500 is really a fair comparison, anyway. It's not Escort's top-of-the-line.

    But on this topic I will say only this: Belscort and Valentine are each running a business. You're NEVER going to get anything for free unless they owe you something contractually. Someone who constantly needs the latest technology is going to end up spending a fortune, whether it goes into VR's accounts or Bel/Escort's. Things change fast and it costs money to bring us that new technology!
