    Default Ka save--but not impressive

I pulled out and accelerated up to and beyond(inadvertantly) the 35 limit on a side street today. Well, just as a began to surpass the limit, I get a 4 bar Ka alert. I look in my rvm, and see a motorcycle cop that has just turned on the road behind me, about 100-150 yards back.

My x50 kept constantly alerting, ranging from 3-6 bars, all the while the cop was around 100 yards back. I noticed at 3 bars, I could only see the headlight of the motorcycle. BUT STILL AT ONLY 100 YARDS ON A STRAIGHT ROAD w/ only minor hills, how could this thing not have full alert the whole time?

I did get saved, but I'm still VERY leary about this things range and sensitivity... :?

Were there any cars in front of you? For a detector such as the X50 to detect radar from behind, it has to be reflected off objects in front of you into the front antenna.

With cars in front of you, you probably would have gotten a stronger signal.

Also, if the LEO had a dual-antenna radar, he could have had the rear antenna on, which would make the signal even weaker to you, but then he wouldn't be clocking your speed either.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

Come to think of it, there were not other cars ahead of me, just lots of trees and houses on the immediate sides of the road. I guess I can forgive the X50 for this--still a bummer b/c I haven't really had an "affirming" $300 rd range/save experience.

you sholdn't de dissapointed with your rd. Radar detectors (with the exception of the Valentine), are not designed for long range rear detection, and as Kpatz said, in order for your detector to register signals from the rear, it relies on the signal to be reflected off of things in front of you. I have a feeling that the x50 will prove itself soon enough

Yea, I feel like I'm just B!tching all the time about the thing, but I've def not had the 1-2 mile range on ANY band that some folks report. Perhaps I'll be trading it in on a newer unit with perhaps a new revision in a few months...

you will get it, just wait, one day you'll be on the interstate and it will snifff one out further than you thought possible. I was about to trade mine for a V1 from all the negattive stuff on this forum but I didnt have the money and since then I have logged about 3500miles on the highway and I swear by the thing now. Its fun to play around with it in spec mode when you are out of the typical thicket of false alarms and dont have to worry about bogey count. Just hang in there.

just give it a few more chances you'll be impressed at how well it detects, and you should try spec display it's very entertaining
