Default escort x 50 overheating new ver 11 coming soon

This Is a great board just to start off!
    This is my first post.'
Ok every summer my escort x50 overheats if I leave it in the window on for more then 20 mins. I Had it worked on a year ago and they downloaded the new ver 5. I thought that this would help but this summer its overheating again. I called the number that was on the card they sent back with my unit its the number to the tech room. I asked about my problem and the guy said ver 11 is going to be out in about 2 weeks.
He said it may help the overheating a little, and that it will help the faulse alarms. It will update pop radar allso. He said it will be a very good update and to wait about 2 weeks to send it in for repair. his words.
So any one else heard of ver 11 coming soon? Is anyone having overheating problems?
I cant wait to see what the update will be like!!

Hi m8, welcome to the board, you will find the overheating problem wont be solved with a revision of software, the electronic components dont like extreme tempratures, we had a freeze over yesterday morning and my incar dvd player was screwed untill the temp in the cabin warmed up.

Best bet would be to mount it out of the sun or near and A/C duct.

    good luck

    I live in ofallon Mo.
I believe if the car gets hot for more then 30 min at about 85 outside All 8500 x50 will overheat.
I have had 3 x 50 from best buy 1 from another store all overheated.
So I tried the bel rx 65 and it overheated allso.
I am not bashing escort I think its one of the best radar detector to date.
I just wish it would not over heat.
I guess I will have to take it out of the window and put it under the seat.

P.S I have the radar setup so the little dot goes across the screen if it overheats the dot will stop moving. I think a lot of people dont even know they radar is overheating with out the dot moving across the screen.
    Just my thoughs.

One idea that might be worth a try would be mounting with a visor clip. That would keep the detector out of direct sunlight. Roy sells them for $4.

Question - When you detector locks up, do the buttons on top cease to work?

According to Mike Valentine, the impact of the tint strip should be very little during the day.

Mounting high behind the tint band may reduce the laser signal somewhat, but it reduces the sunlight contamination by the same amount. The result is an unchanged laser-to-sunlight ratio from the scene beyond your vehicle, but with reduced hood reflections owing to a higher vantage point—a net gain. Only in the dead of night would a just-below-the-tint-band mounting position be beneficial.
Don't know just how much truth is in that. I'm going to try it out next time I go by an airport. If it will still false to laser from the windshear sensor, behind the tint it goes.

Yes It will not do a thing.
I just cool it down a little and then turn it back on.

OK, I had wondered about that. My Bel RX65 doesn't have the option for the scanning dot, so if I ever suspect that it might be overheated (hasn't happened yet, just paranoid), I switch it from city, to higway, and back.
