PLEASE HELP! X-50 only displays laser alerts

So after owning an x-50 for about 3 months, i'm finally convinced somehting is wrong. throughout this whole time, with me using it, it has never displayed anything other than a LASER alert. Once, me and a friend were driving, i was literally 20 feet behind him, and we were talking to each other on the phone, and he says "my radar is going off, showing (I forget but it was either X, K or KA) signal, are you getting anything?", I reply "No". Of course, a little bit further down the road there's a cop. note: my friend had a cheap cobra rd or something he got from meijer. So i'm like what's the problem. I live in an area where there are not many cops on the sides of the road issuing tickets. I tried driving by one of those speed measuring devices that sometimes are places on a road, still nothing. I finally found a cop with a ka radar. drove by 3 times, with auto, then highway, then city setting. NOTHING at all showed up on the x-50. It's mounted right below my rear view mirror, i drive a 2000 cavalier, no tinted glass or anything. Yes, all signals are turned on (laser, k, x, xa and pop)

Any suggestions?

My friend went on a roadtrip in toledo, back in late june, and there are cops everywhere there. and he said all kinda of radar alerts were there. so i guess yes. maybe someting happened to the rd between now and then?

ok so you bought it from him after he upgraded im assuming.......and YES that would be my guess too, something went wrong, or your cavalier isnt worth RADARing, which I HIGHLY DOUBT, so I guess my advice to you is to send it into Escort to have it looked at/Fixed

1. No, i got it on ebay from some dude, brand new and all. promised 6 year warranty. sent him messages and emails on ebay, no responce. The friend just borrowed it once

2. That indicent where some cobra radar gun detected a radar gun detector and my x50 didn't. that means one of us was targeted and only his worked

well if the Cobra alerted and The X50 didnt there is DEFINATELY something wrong, thats why all of us here STRONGLY urge people NOT to buy off eBay, atleast not ones marked NEW, a used one should be fine, if a friend borrowed it that time and got hits while you arent now either the Antenna has fallen HORRIBLY out of tune, or it just plain broke, either way id have it sent in for service, and sorry to be mean but just let this serve as a reminder NOT to buy RDs on eBay

Have you checked to make sure X, K, and Ka are not turned off? They should be on by default, but its something easy to check. Check the EZ-Programming section of the manual. If you don't have the manual, you can read it here: http://www.escortradar.com/pdf/8500x50manual.pdf

If you want to test it, do a factory reset on it. To do this, power off the unit. Hold down the City and Dim buttons on the top and the mute button on the front, then power it on. This will return it to its default factory settings. Then drive to some stores that have automatic door openers. Large grocery stores, drug stores, and big hardware stores like Home Depot and Lowes have door openers that will set off the detector. Usually on X or K band. Drive as close to the door as you can. Try a few different places. If you don't get any alerts, its almost a certainty its not working.

If you determine its not working and you can't get the seller to replace it, give Escort a call. They will NOT honor the warranty, but they may be willing to repair it for far less than the price of a new one.

you must buy from authorized in order to get warrenty, but try resetting the unit and check if all bands are active like mentioned above

Yes, i've checked to make sure all bands are turned on. yes, i've done factory resets. i guess service is my only option
