Default Just bought Escort 8500 x50, need help

    Hi,
I am a 17 year old driver and i just bought the Escort 8500 x50 with the help of a friends emplyee discount at Best Buy . I live in MD and was wondering what the police bands that were used are. I dont really know much about the settings and was wondering if somebody could let me know if I could turn any bands off to reduce false alerts? That'd be great. Thanks guys.

These are the bands used in your state.

    K, KA, Laser, and X

Also, here are the Laser guns they use.
    LTI Ultralyte, Pro Laser III

I would recommend that you leave all bands on since your state uses them all. Also, use expert mode on the x50. Trust me you'll get an advantage if they try to use more than one Radar source. Hope this helps

enter programming mode and follow the directions (in the owners manual) to toggle through the options, for the menu item "Pilot" make sure it has H...> for scanning dot, or +> for scanning plus sign. These are just display toys that are fun to look at mostly, some say it is a way to tell if the cpu is frozen which has happened but without a moving display you would never know (if the dot or plus sign freezes you know you need to turn it of and reboot). Next under the menu item "Meter" make sure it says EXP, that is expert meter which displays contact and signal strength for 2Ka, 2K,and 4X, that will really help you get an idea of how many, how strong, and what band of radar is being used at any given time. I think everyone here uses EXP and it pretty much dominates. Good luck with x50, everyone on here loves it and it has certainly served me well in the year I have had mine. Welcome to the board.

    except V1 users

This is my word of advice ... we were all 17 once and im not judgeing you but i have heard plenty of stories of teenagers going into electronic stores and buying the latest and greatest RD and automatically thing they now have bought a 'Cloaking Device' that will protect them from anything the Polizei (police) can throw at them.

A RD is tool that can be used very effectively to travel reasonable above the limit (5 to 15); it is not a device that allows you to go 100+ and not get caught. Yes it is possible to get a save at that speed but they are rare and the cop wouldn't know much about beating radar.

Post and read on the forum too, you will learn quite a bit about the ins and outs of speed and traffic enforcement and sticking it to the po-po. I know I have.

Drive with care and the best of luck.
