Default Question on Escort Passport 8500 X50

I recently purchasted the 8500 X50 from this site and it is great!!! I live in Ontario where they are not legal to use. Almost all of the police departments use the new Specter II's, and the X 50 can pick them up, But what warning comes up on the detector when Specter is detected??? I've been thought the manuel and can't find anything on this. I would really like to know if anyone can help me out .

    thanx

I didn't know the x50 had this ability. Of course I'm not concerned with spectre or vg2 since an RD is legal here.

However my BEL has a similar feature. When VG2 is detected it gives an audible alert and a visual "VG2" light then shuts down automatically. Of course I de-activated this feature since I don't need it.

    Default Spectre

Currently there is NO detector that can pick-up the Spectre, we have that information here: http://www.radarbusters.com/support/...s-detector.asp

Hopefully that will change in the near future with some new models that are expected to come out in the 2nd quarter of 2005

I'm sorry. I mis-interpered the test results for that test. I thought that the X50 would pick up the Specter from the distance listed but it seems to be the other way around!!! Thanks for the info

Actually I knew that it was detectable, but thought only from a distance of appox. 1382 feet. I was under the impression that the X50 would give me a warning of some kind anyway about the approching Specter II. Does that sound better, Or I'm I still SOL... hahaha!

    sausage, here's some tips:

Unplug detector after a "serious warning" has been encountered. You'll usually see the police car well in the distance at this time.

If you are being pulled over, quickly take the detector and hide it in your jacket pocket. Replace the cigarette lighter! If the cop searches your car, he is legally allowed, however he cannot search you. Bear that in mind.

Cobra would detect the Spectre I, but as soon as cobra came out with that tech the Spectre I's were upgraded to Spectre II, which it couldn't detect.

Those 9600/9700's were some interresting units, if they handled POP a little better, i'd probably still have mine, but the false POP alerts would drive you up the wall. The X50/Bel RX65 are much quieter and they're still pretty chatty. Other than that though, they were an incredible bang for the buck.

    Default Cobra

Well the old Cobra did not "exactly" detect the Spectre I, but it came close. The Spectre I detected the Cobra and the Cobra sometimes gave off a VG2 alert, but never a Spectre alert as it was designed to do. You are correct on Spectre II. Just after this, they upgraded the I to II based upon the Cobra's alert
