I've never been known for good luck, but...
A couple years ago, I bought a 7500....worked great for a little over a year, then it began detecting laser everywhere, even in my driveway! It just went off whenever it wanted to, scaring the cr*p outa me. About then the 8500 x50 came out, so I figured I'd just go ahead and upgrade.
It worked for about 9 months, then I started getting occational self-cal messages. Turned it off, back on and everything seemed ok. Then about a month later, it started displaying the "Service Required" jazz. Less than a year old, and it finally went diodes-up and won't come out of service required. Basically, two of Escort's "best", and each lasted a year. I always took the 8500 off the dash, put it in the nice case, and basically treated it like a fine piece of jewelry.
Question is, are these things just inherently P.O.S.? I just picked up a new truck so I'm gonna need two new detectors, but I just can't bring myself to buy another Escort product, as all I can base my feelings on are my personal experiences, which have been bad. I really don't need to buy something that's gonna die in the first year of (very gentile) use, and spend my time and money sending stuff back, waiting weeks to get it back, then never know when I'll have to do it again.
Too bad, 'cause I really do like them when they work. Have any of you guys had similar experiences?
