Default X50 is dead. Please help!

Hi guys, I have a X50 that I bought at bestbuy while on the trip to US.

It was fine for like 1 month and all of a sudden it does not start when the car is on. Its like any fuse is blown? I dont know. Just no response, I have tried everything like plugged it to other cars or anything... but its dead.

Now the problem is, its gonna be painful if I have to send it back to Escort for repair since I am far away from US. If you guys know there is any possible cause or solution, please please enlighten me. I really need it working.

    Thanks alot

Maybe. Have you tried it in another car? Seems either a really trivial issue, or a really serious one

    Completely fried unit

Still under warranty? I'd send it back. Escort does sell in Western Canada, you should be able to send it to some kind of distributor.

still under warranty. but sending back would be my last option since it takes too much hassles.

never thought the famous x50 can be so delicate...

    Hmmm... where do you live?

I wouldn't bring it to an electronics repair ship... that would void the warrenty from Escort, and then your in really big trouble if the electronics repair ship can't fix it.

All the High-end (Top 3/4) RD's seem to be rather delicate.

Everything from 'E's to 'Service Req'.

By the way: Did you get any "self cal", or "service req" messages?

open up the plug and check the fuse.
even if it looks good, i'd get another one anyway. on rare occasion i have seen fuses go bad (blow) that still look good, especially those tube style, if it goes at the end under the silver cap.

a couple bucks for that is your best and easiest option, if that doesn't work, it sounds like something internal.

Yea, for some reason Im thinking its the power cord. Dont exactly know if you can replace the fuse, though. Try getting another power cord. Otherwise, the unit it probably fried.
