    Default x50 falling off windshield

I have an x50 here in chicago, today I parked my car and when I came out 15 minutes later it was laying on the floor, lately i've had problems with it falling off the windshied in the cold. Even with a temp of 32 degrees F the suction cups dont seem to hold. Any ideas... bigger suction cups, possibly attach to headliner, mirror??

    Thanks for any replies,

    Skycart

Get some new suction cups. You can pick them up at a place like Home Depot.

    or get a visor clip

you need to get a hardwire kit if you decide to go with one of those options

This is a common problem, especially with the X50 since it's the heaviest RD on the market. What I do is take a blow drier and get the area of the windshield where I'm going to mount it really hot, then sticking on the suction cups. It worked for me and no problems yet (although I have a V1).

If that doesn't work, try soaking the suction cups in hot water for a while. This will soften them up causing them to stick better.

I'll try the "warming it up" approach, but what happens when it cools off? I also found this pretty cool aluminum mount, still gotta measure my mirror to see if it will fit.

This is what i do to fix all my RD suction cups problems.

Get a coffee cup fill it with water.
Put in microwave until water is boiling.
Open microwave add suction cups to the coffee cup.
Turn Microwave back on for 1 1/2 mins allowing the suction cups to be boiled.
After 1 1/2 mins pull cup from microwave empty the water.
Don't touch them they are hot.
Allow suction cups to cool with the suction cups in the up position for 12-24 hours.
    Repeat when necessary.

I got suction cups from Fred Meyer and they're so strong that pulling on the RD I can't pull them off of the windshield. They work wonderfully!

The boiling water trick works very nicely. I am not sure how long before the cups become solidified in the flat position again. I think they get set in the summer from the higher ambient temperatures.

The Escort visor clips are horrible compared to the older Beltronics visor clips/windshield mounts. The Bel visor clip allows you to adjust the angle of the RD to level it out. The Escort visor clip ($4-$7) is non-adjustable by itself.

It should stay in place once you have it mounted.

I put mine in hot water for a few minutes and they work perfect for a few months.
