    Default 8500 questions

Im about to start investing in items to prevent me from getting speeding tickets. I have had two now and since Im under 18 my driving privelages are jeapordized.

I want to get a LPP or ZR3 but because of the money situation... I cant afford either of them. I have heard that the blinder wont do me as much good as a higher end jammer so Im going to take some different measures until I can afford a good jammer.

Im looking right now at the escort 8500. I want to make sure though before I buy it... Will it detect LIDAR? I would rather take your word from experience than the word of escorts company. I do understand that laser detection isnt much good unless you have means of fooling the laser so I have some ideas to keep me stealthy and give me some time to react:

In combination with the escort 8500, black out headlight and taillight covers with veil under the covers, veil over bumperlights and turn signals, and a licensplate shield. I plan on having my windows tinted. Will this help me out or worsen the chance of me getting clocked?

the 8500 wont do anything with laser, it will alert you but it will be too late

if you want laser protection you need a laser jammer

the v1 is the best in laser detection but 98% of the time it will be too late when it alerts laser... the 2% you can get laser scatter and actually have time to slow down

    Ditto that.

I was struck at est. 1200 ft and the SR7 did nothing more than alert me I was about to be stopped. I upgraded to the ZR3 which to date is untested against a real world laser trap so I can't comment on my performance.

This may be too late for your situation but if your tickets are in a major municipality then you should always get a traffic lawyer as soon as possible. They can work miracles if you hire them early enough to get you into a sympathectic judge and your ticket isn't too ridiculous. If it's a statie or small town then your cooked unless you know a local LEO.

If I got stuck with two tickets on my record in one year I would just have to slow down until they blow over.

^ Agreed - although I am a bit more optimistic.

In my view, if you speed smart, using a top-flight detector that's known for its excellent laser reception - like the V1 - should be a viable defense.

It still won't guaranty that you'll be ticket free, but it's about as good as you can get.

The "investment" comes in with the jammer. Since money is tight, I would try to find out which LIDAR units are most used in the areas that you most routinely travel, and see if one of the LED-based (and thus less expensive) units may be able to cover you sufficiently, especially if you also employ good passive protection.

What car do you drive? A bra might help if your car is light colored.
