    Default Escort 9500i Mounting?

Is it true that one MUST mount the 9500i low on the windshield because of satellite reception? I ONLY mount my detector's high for better radar reception and stealthness so this would FOR ME PERSONALLY be a huge letdown

    Default I'll

I'll bet you could use the part between the headrest and the seat on the passengers seat and aim it pointing out the window. Just a thought happy. Of course, that is unless you have people getting in and out of the passengers side.

    Default this should..

This should increase laser reception tho...? To every alert maybe this is another one of their intentions with this unit? BUmmer tho if this info shared by happy is true this is why i like my nav alert. THe only reason I see to purchase 9500i is if you live in an area where truelock could prove helpfull ie ny city the big city...

It would depend on your vehicles windshield slope. The manual states that in order for the GPS enabled functions to work properly the top of the detector case must have a clear view of the sky.

Wow good idea . The LEO's wouldn't be able to see a detector in your windshield anymore :P.

It should be noted that the 9500i uses the (relatively) new SiRF Star III GPS chipset. From all reports I've seen, this is an incredibly sensitive chipset that's several steps above the standard 12 Channel WAAS enabled receivers before it in terms of signal acquisition. It shouldn't have much problem acquiring a signal no matter where you put it on your windshield. I was extremely happy to see that Escort decided to go with this. It is good news particularly for those of us with cars that have coatings added by the manufacture on the front windshield (heat reflective coatings, etc). In cars like that, standard 12-Channel GPS receivers provide sporadic results, at best, when placement is anything less than optimal (unless an external antenna is used).

    Happy,
I have a Garmin GPS that's mounted high and I haven't had any
issues with Signal loss. Thrawn is right when he states that the
SiRF chip is better at reception, it's a very sensitive chip. My GPS
doesn't have this chipset and it does fine. If the 9500i does contain
a SiRF chip, your more than taken care of as far as reception goes.

IMO there should be NO problems mounting it high. My little cheap Garmin i3 picks up signal in my car no matter where I have it. It picks up signal setting on the floor under the dash. I have actually had it pick up signal in my house.

The 9500i picked up signal in my garage with the garage door open but the car was facing inwards. So it seems to be able to pick up signal pretty well.
