Default How long before someone hacks the 9500i???

I wonder how long it will take.??? I can just imagine the possibilities with the ability to hook up the detector to USB...Anyone willing to try????

The bad thing is that since we don't have the drivers for the 9500i yet, the computers don't even recognize the RD, or at least mine didn't.

I called Escort and they said the USB port will be used for software updates as well as uploading & downloading your saved data as well as incorporating others data.

I asked when... The reply... No idea. I couldn't get a next week, next month, or a next year. Nothing.

I wonder if I can get on some beta test program?

Yes, I had a USB cable that is used for my Palm Pilot (it had the same plug end) so I thought I would give it a try. I brought the RD inside to my computer and plugged it in. Nothing happened. Then I figured that the USB doesn't power the RD so I took my laptop to my car and turned the power on to the RD. The computer recognized something was plugged into the USB port but nothing would show up. I searched my USB ports in explorer but I could not find it. So the computer realizes that something is there but can't do anything with it.

I thought I heard someone mention that their computer successfully identified the RD.

Perhaps that is another problem Escort forgot to address, that there is no way to power the detector when brought into the home.

Maybe it's just going to be used as a solid state memory device which the RD simply reads files off of in a special format, thus eliminating the need to power the entire detector. I'm just guessing here, who knows.

I'm thinking that we will have to buy a 10 dollar AC to DC converter for the home.

Maybe they will sell one in a kit that contains a USB cable and the needed software/driver.

If they did it right, they would have used the usb to power the device, if not someone erally did not think very far ahead....

a kit with the drivers and cable is probably what they are working on now...
