    Default 9500i - AutoSensitivity Info

I asked Escort about how the new Auto Sensitivity works on the 9500i. I wanted to know at what MPH does it change the sensitivity. Here is their response:
It is good to hear from you! The speed sensitivity has two stages.
At approximately 15 mph and under, the detector will detect the signal, but will not report it as an alert and will remain quiet. At approximately 16 mph and above it is at full sensitivity.

The marked Location also looks at speed. A Marked Location will provide around 1 mile advance warning as you approach the Marked Location if you are traveling at highway speeds, generally considered to be above 50 mph. If you are driving on near-by roads to the Marked Location - not on the interstate and traveling at lower speeds - the 9500i will identify the location but will not alert until you are at 1/2 mile from the location.
So it looks like at 16mph & above - you are at full sensitivity in Auto mode.

This is untrue. I just received my 9500i and am doing some test. I went through an area where I normally get on X band hit. When the 9500i was in auto mode, I was doing 30mph and I got no alert.

I went back through the same area with Highway mode engaged, and I get an X band alert, still doing 30mph.

I'll have to do some more tests.

Wait, I change my mind, I guess this could be true, as per my bet is Auto mode is filtering out the weak X band signal, where as Highway mode gives the alert.

So I guess this is true......

Ahh.... I think Auto mode effects X band either way, and no mode effects Ka band:
City and Highway change the sensitivity of the X band depending upon which one you choose. Auto changes the X band sensitivity intelligently depending upon how much X band the detector is receiving.
Where are you from? Do you need to have X band enabled?

I'm in AZ and have no need for X band. I may end up just turning it off. But, I've only had the detector 2 hours now and require much more testing.

I just did a test. Detector in Auto mode.

As I drove by the door opener going 16 MPH or more it did alert.

As I drove by the door opener going 10 mph it did not alert.

Now, I was able to get the 9500i to alert at 5 MPH but I had to drive right up to the door opener. I had to get about 20' away and face it directly.

    The alert was X band.

This is pretty awesome. I'm loving this feature!
