I will be evaluating and be testing various scenarios with the 9500i ability to lockout a signal with a 2nd source with the same signal. This will be my focus of the review. As far as sensitivity goes, i'll leave that to GOL's testing this march and will add some as time goes on regarding other features of the 9500i.
First test: Ka Band Lockout
The 9500i will NOT lockout a Ka band radar source such as a speed sign or any radar guns(police radar) in a particular location. I think i know why escort designed it to be that way. Common sense to me. This is where the "marked" location works with the GPS. My initial belief is that it will only lockout K and X band radar source.
Second test: 9500i vs. Golden Eagle Ka band
The 9500i does not show double bogey with the kustom golden eagle Ka band radar whereas the X50 will show double bogey using only one antenna. Will do farther testing on this.
Third Test: POP Enabled
The 9500i is super quiet specially in autosentivity mode with POP disabled. Very usefull in areas where you get a lot of autodoor openers. Put the X50 and 9500i side by side with vehicle parked at a distance from an auto door opener and the X50 has full bars vs. pure silence with the 9500i.
When POP enabled, it's a different story. It acted like my X50. I had a total of 5 POP alerts in one day.
Fourth Test: K band sensitivity H mode
My initial findings seems to me that the X50 is more sensitive to K band than the 9500i. It was consistent on alerting K band radar source first most of the time before the 9500i starts it's alert. The ramp up alert seems to be a slower than the X50. It tends to pick up signal at a minimum alert and spikes up to full alert. It did not behave like the X50 showing 1,2,3.4 bars then to full. With the 9500i, you get 1 bar for a while and then boom to full alert. This happened with a local PD stopped at a middle of the road with his Kustom HR 12 mounted on the cruiser's dashboard with constant on. Will be doing farther testing on this and will look forward to GOL's test this march.
Fifth Test: Ka band sensitiity
My initial findings shows that the 9500i was better than my X50 when it comes to Ka alert. Seems to have good range with Ka band and picks up the alert where my V1 alerts me all the time. Ramp up noticed to be slower too. Again, will see what the results will be with GOL's test this march.
Sixth Test: Mounting 9500i
9500i was mounted above my RVM where a blue tint from the windshield covers it. Can't see the RD at a distance. At this mounting position, i had no problems picking up GPS. Confirms GPS connection in 8 sec. The only problem i noticed is that the auto dimmer does not work during daytime. Had to switch to max brightness. When i had the Sti Driver before, i did not experience this problem when in autodimmer mode mounting the Sti above my RVM.
Seventh Test: Volume and Automute
Automute is better than the X50 and is comparable to the STi driver. The auto volume does not got higher than the desired setting you made. Say if you set up the volume to 3 bars, the volume does not change even when you intentionally increase the volume of your radio. I have to do some more test on this and only have a few days to do it - it's a loaner.
Eigth Test: K band lockout with MPH K band radar (H Mode)
The test was done with an auto door opener at a local grocery store and MPH K band radar to see if the 9500i will alert to a new K band threat from a police radar in the same area after locking out the grocery store K band source. The test concluded that any K band source that is witin the area of the lockout source will also be locked out. If LEO was doing speed check inside that lockout zone, his signal will not be detected - it's also locked out unless LEO uses a Ka band radar. During the test, when the MPH radar gun was turned on for 5-10 sec., it alerted a Ka band alert at the lowest signal strength. I found out that it does not neccessarily have to be in the same frequency. During the test, i even put the MPH antenna 6 in. away and was silent. After a few seconds, i got a Ka alert. Did 2 test with video.
*** Please note that this test was done in the parking lot and vehicle was stationary and never moved away from location. An updated test will be added later upon confirmation and thanks to FUCCO for his advice and suggestions ***
Other test to follow and will be added to this thread.
1. K band radar with same frequency with the 2nd source.
2. Sensitivity test between X50,V1 and 9500i in 35.5 and 34.7 ghz
3. Expert mode with multiple bogeys in K and Ka band
4. Spec display reading with encounters with police radar that pass the
tuning fork test.
P.S. - Be patient with the results. IT TAKES TIME.
