To answer your question, I've been driving with the 9500i since December and like it. The GPS module is very high-quality, fast to acquire a fix and very insensitive to poor mounting locations.
The controls are intuitive and marking a POI is simple. It gives a countdown from 5,200 feet, in 100-foot increments, upon returning to a marked location and I've found it to be dead accurate.
Haven't tested the radar side extensively yet although it detected a 2-mW Ka-band photo radar from almost exactly the same distance as the RX65, X50 and V1. I'll withhold my opinion on its overall radar performance, but I suspect it'll be comparable to those models. At this price point Escort would have been nuts not to spec that in the design parameters.
Also keep in mind that I'm talking about a pre-production unit. That's important to note because any high-end manufacturer inevitably goes through a rapid series of software tweaks on a new model like this. I'll wait until they've been shipping for a few months before buying one at retail and running it through a full battery of tests.
Much as I respect Escort, I've learned the hard way never to test a manufacturer-supplied unit and quote the results as gospel. Their stuff is good enough that they really don't need to cheat, but they're also smart enough not to send me a sub-par unit.
That said, I think the 9500i has a lot of potential.
Hope this helps.

Craig
