Default Anyone seeing weird display warnings?

I was in the garage trying to get the audio turned down on the cycle (needs a 3.3k resistor in the output lead).

Anyhoo, there was a scrolling message "Bridge closed due to weather" that scrolled right to left on the 9500i display.

First time I've ever noticed one of those messages. I don't know if it was Cal-Trans transmitting it or where it came from.

Pretty neat, but since I wasn't moving I don't know what bridge it was referring to. Yep, there was ice on a lot of them this morning so they may have shut down I-5 or Grapevine in So. California.

Another was "1600 feet." That may be a locked-out point at some mini-market I've done.

Very wild guess, outside possibility, hidden feature, twilight zone time. Could the 9500 be NAVTEQ, NAVTRAFFIC capable?????

    I think your right.

I found this on the Crutchfield site:

"Safety Warning System: The Safety Warning System, or SWS, uses a modified K-band radar signal to alert you of upcoming highway construction, road hazards, weather-related hazards, travel and convenience information and emergency/slow-moving vehicles. The SWS system has 64 possible text messages that can be displayed."

Never knew the 9500i had that in it. Looking around, it seems California is putting more of these units along highways and construction zones. I was at least a mile from the highway that I suspected the K-band (?) SWS signal came from. I'm not far (2000') from some radio/cell tower that has an extensive array of antennas and dishes on it.

I'm still curious as to where the signal originates around here. Some say the patrol cars have the ability to transmit the SWS signal. I don't know.

Have you seen anymore of these messages since this post? I’m trying to see if anyone has deployed any of these SWS systems.
