hello, long time v1 fan here. recently i purchased the 9500i for my motorcycle intending to keep the v1 in my car. but since it's not bike season, i could use the 9500i in my car to play with it and get used to it. after all, nothing compares to the v1 right?
maybe. my biggest problem with the v1 is false alerts. in my area, metro kc, kansas doesn't have a whole lot of traffic radar. my v1 falses all the time, so much so it's annoying. even my passengers complain my v1 goes off and they never ever see a police car. 95% of my v1 alerts are non-LEO. when it works, it works great...but so much noise.
so anyway, the 9500i uses the same V1 power cable so since i had my v1 hardwired, i simply took down the v1 and replaced it with the 9500i. i am very pleased. it's been a long time since i've trusted these guys. Cincinnati Microwave. i had the original Escort with the meter and the orange bulb in '86 awesome, then the Passport (x and k only of course), then the solo....after that i left. the 9500i is nearly nearly nearly on par with the v1 in detection range and it falses a whole lot less. my 6-mile drive to the workplace has zero false alerts with maybe a dozen on the v1. the lockout works great. i think i will keep the 9500i. hopefully v1 will come out with something similar but kudos to the 9500i for making this happen.
not sure about some things with the 9500i. if someone could point me in the right direction, that would be helpful. first, pop alert, i believe it is defaulted to OFF, i don't think i need it, but when OFF, will it still detect pop radar? maybe in the OFF position it is not actively searching i guess. second, marking radar/photo positions is useless to me. i started out marking all these places where i've seen cops sit (hardly any rolling radar here, almost always stationary). but i always drive fast and getting the alert at a mile away is annoying and unproductive. i like a quiet detector. plus when you mark a spot, not matter which direction you approach, it alerts. that doesn't make sense when you are crossing the freeway on the overpass when the trap is on the ground below at a 90% angle. so i ended up unmarking all spots. am i not using it correctly? i can see where it comes in handy if you are driving down the highway in an unfamiliar state on a roadtrip, can we share info? finally, i just wanted to verify that the 9500i ramps up pretty slowly as you approach the radar and then goes straight to full alert really fast. that's unlike the v1 which i prefer, smoother and more linear. is this is general consensus or is it situation specific?
overall, i like the 9500i. too bad the v1 is no longer the king of all features (just arrows and range), horray for gps, it is outstanding and something we've been waiting on a long long time. wish the 9500i came in blue!
