I really wanted my new toy, the 9500i to do better than it did. I have been doing a lot of testing mostly with Ka and laser, because thats what the cops around here use now, and the range of my X50 still trumps anything else I have ever had. I also liked the very distinct tone of a Ka alert... you knew just by the tone that it was Ka and not K... but with the 9500i I cant really tell without the voice alerts. I also can't hear the 9500i because it doesnt seem to go as loud as my X50 does. My dad has had his eyes on my X50 for awhile now, and because I thought I was going to keep my 9500 I was just going to give him my X50 for free. However now I am having second thoughts about keeping the 9500 because I just cant part with the range that I am used to getting with the X50. I cannot seem to justify spending that extra $150 for the gps and losing out on the nice range I love so much. I have found myself saying "it's ok, its not that bad"...... But who am I kidding, if you pay an extra $150 you have to at least keep what you loved before and get $150 better right??? Well it just doesnt seem that for my use the 9500 filtering and gps is worth giving up the nice range I had before... I have grown to trust my X50 over the time I have had it, because I know as long as I am smart about how I speed I'll be fine with that detector, not invinceable, but able to trust it. With the knowledge that my 9500i isnt as good in range as my X50 is, I cant seem to be able to place that kind of trust in my 9500. I want the 9500i as soon as the people on this board can tell me that the range is comparable to the other top 3 detectors we all love so much. I can't wait until I hear that story told by one of you guys in the NEAR future I HOPE.... But until that time I am afraid that I will be returning the 9500i. It will be missed
Seems like a good amount of people aren't happy with their 9500i's.
Yoda of Radar
I have to agree, after being out for awhile it seems as if Escort really went backwords with this detector (I am basing this purely on what Ive seen/heard from owners on here)...
Upping the price (a very considerable amount), yet detection remaining the same as the X50, or even worse, that just isn't good. (I understand that price increase is for the added GPS capabilities.) Yet I think my X50 is rather quiet as is?
I think that the idea behind the detector was certainly a step in the right direction... but the detector itself hasn't seemed to be so far. I guess we will wait for GOL to really get more info on this.
Due to lack of sensitivity I am forced to part with my 9500i and replace it with a new V1.
I had a V1 before my 9500i, I really liked the 9500i, but due to an encounter today with a k band speed sign, the 9500i can't touch the V1 in sensitivity. I need that early alert, and if I have to deal with some false signals(which really arn't false because its on a radar freq.) the 9500i is not for me.
It sounds as if the V1 and X50 trounce on the 9500i. Is this true?

I couldn't tolerate how loud the 9500i was on the motorcycle via the headphone jack. The x50 was fine, but the 9500i would launch me out of the seat when it went off (Auto Volume was off).
I wrote to Escort and they said the 9500i was "indeed louder than the x50. " They didn't offer much help on how to deal with it.
I finally grabbed a 3.9K ohm resister and placed in in the audio out line and made it tolerable on the bike. The voice was way too loud before this.
This is all very confusing.....
Still, hoping to get mine back and regain my lost XM Radio after they do whatever to it.
Seems like the V1 has nothing to worry about. The dissatisfaction with the 9500 should help the STI also because it has better range than the X50 and is not supposed to really suppress false alarms, not need the lockout feature.
Can't wait to see how the V1 and STI stack up in the GOL tests!
i want a p500 just because its new but still havent sold my v1 so i am patiently waiting and reading reviews
I think you are going to be waiting a long time for Belscort to do anything. Bel will release a new detector before Escort offers any "updates" or "speed trap locations" through USB for the 9500i.
