    Default Full KA band?

I bought my X50 three days ago and several times I have gotten full KA alerts with no build up. Most recently it was a HP coming towards me that I believe was on the way to a nearby wreck. I have it running in highway mode with the factory settings unchanged right now.

My questions are: Could it be instant on or pop? and is it normal or should I take it back and exchange it for a new unit?

    Thanks

Instant. . . definitely not pop.

X50's have an issue with ramping . . . get used to it.

yea.... if you just bought it a few days ago from a retail store, it's probably an x50 rev6. I have the same problems with ramping. Never had it with my old rev5.

If you were close enough and ambushed with an IO there would be little if any ramp up. It would go right to full.

Thanks for the responses. My main concern is that I don't see why the LEO would be using IO if he was on his way to an accident. I have a long drive tomorrow so I'll really be able to test it out.

Maybe a ticket is more important than an accident...You know how it is when a town is cash strapped.

Naw, he was probably just trying to prevent another one of those "speed-related" accidents by stopping ppl who were going fast. You know how much they care about our safety....

maybe he just turned (started transmit) the radar. I have mine transmit from the rear antenna when i am out of the car at a accident. (had 2 rollovers last night), IF it was off when he was driving and transmited it out just before the scene that would explain the ramp up signal

I know that sometimes FHP does that. My one of my longest Ka detections was when a trooper had his rear antennea on in a construction zone.

Yeah, a NYSTrooper did that at an accident just down the road from my house (car over ditch into field), just a few days back. Effective warning system I must say.

I like the situational awareness it provides when I know 1+Mile away there is an LEO running radar, gives plenty of time to 'react accordingly'... Wether it be coming up onto an accident, simply him running radar, or already having someone pulled over and still running radar.

    Default I had that

That's what I had happen when my Bel 995 was giving me 3.8 miles of C/O ka detection from an officer who just left it on during a traffic stop.
