Have owned many detectors since the mid 1970's. Started with a Fuzz Buster, have had early escort, V1, 2 8500's and an 8500x50. Up until the last few years, I would typically drive 20 -25k miles per year and have only had one speeding ticket in the last 20 years (and this by airplane).
You choice of detector depends on your personal tastes and the type of driving. Most of my driving is local roads and shorter highway drives. I really like being able to lock out the speed signs on my daily commute. In my almost two months with the 9500i, I have encountered Leo radar a handful of times, and had plenty of advance notice to slow down.
I have encountered one Leo near a sign that I had locked out (K band), but he was using Ka, and I did receive an alert in plenty of time. When I do drive longer highway trips, I usually am only 9 to 10 MPH over at the most. If I drove mostly rural roads, or drove faster on the freeway, I might choose a different detector. But for me, the quality, speed display, auto brightness, auto mute, and the quite commute, combined with good radar detection make it a winner. I wish the K ramp up was more linear. It's not perfect, but it is the best one for me.
