So I've officially had my Escort x50 for over two years now, and have never, not once, seen a laser alert. This is driving the NYS Thruway between Albany and Syracuse constantly, and I KNOW I have passed cops using laser... I'VE SEEN THE WITH THE DAMN GUN, and it's never gone off. Not once. EVER.

Mounted as low as possible, at the sacrifice of radar, on a car that can't be more than 5 feet tall.

2 years.

Begging. Wishing. Hoping.

Is the x-50 really that bad with laser?

Are you sure you dont have it behind the wipers? Because that would greatly hinder laser performance. Actually, the X50 is second best, with the best being the V1 of course. Ive had it mounted above the rear view mirror, and it has alert when shot from 150-200 feet.

Also, are you sure the cops were targeting you with their laser gun? It could be that every time you've seen them shooting laser, they were busy shooting someone else. This is often the case on busy, multi-lane highways. I have passed cops using laser on multi-lane highways several times and did not get an alert because they were shooting someone else in another lane. Now, if you were the only car on the road, and you saw the cop aiming his gun at you, and the X50 didn't alert, you have a problem. In that case, make sure the wipers aren't blocking it as ELVATO stated. And make sure there isn't any window tinting blocking it. You also may want to try a factory reset on the X50. This will ensure the laser alert mode is on. You could also buy a laser tester from Roy to check your X50.

Laser isn't used nearly as much as radar and from what I've read on this site, they have to be stationary on the side of the road or an overpass and directly targeting you before it will go off unless you get a little bit of a reflection after he's targeting another vehicle.

I have the X50 and have only heard the laser go off once and never did see the guy.

Be careful on the NYS Thruway my friend, not sure where you live, but you will be taught a lesson very quickly should you get on there with this train of thinking.



Anycase, the X50 should pick up LASER no problem... Make sure its not behind the wipers as stated... and as also stated it doesn't mean they are going to target you. (You may have been very lucky in the past).


Make sure laser detection is on first off, then try using the remote controls for ur household appliances (TV/STEREO/DVD/Dish)... and keep shooting it at the front of the X50 from just a few feet.... keep trying and one of them should set it off.


(Note: Not all remote controls do... but its worth a try... you may have to do it 15-20 times with each control just to make sure 100% that the remote wont set an RD off on LASER.)

Ah. When you get the first one you're gonna be REALLY surprised. Imagine a loud cell phone that won't stop ringing. Then imagine your underwear...full, like a baby.

The problem is that every radar/laser detector other than the Valentine One has inferior laser detection so you may never get an alert. At best, the X50 can detect laser 45% of the time according to the most accurate laser detection test by the Veil Guy.

These are the results from the Veil Guy's website:

Isn't the 9500i supposed to be better than the X50? Anyhow, the X50 does alright on laser, If you can't get your X50 to alert with a tv remote, and you don't want to buy the "Roy Toy." Go and do a google video search for "X50 Laser," so you can at least hear what the alert sounds like.

I don't know about the 9500i. I'm just stating from the test that the Veil Guy did, which Jazzy has done a wonderful job at posting

BTW, here is a clip of mine where I got alerted to laser. As you can see, they "painted" me from about 150 ft away. Adding to this, I have my X50 mounted high, above the rear view mirror, and it still alerted.

And yes, while it was sounding, it said Laser on the display.

Be careful what you wish for... I'd gladly give up hearing an occasional laser alarm if it meant that I could return the speeding ticket that I got slapped with a few years ago from a laser trap. The laser alert is LOUD and SCARY... you'll love it :-).
