Escort Revision Difference?
Ok, I did do a search for this and got no pertinant results.
I have an 8500 x50 revision 5, what is the difference between rev 5 and rev 6.1 and is it worth sending it in to get it updated?

The 6.1 has newer, cheaper to manufacture hardware. Escort claims there is no difference in performance.

Some users have stated that they like the rev 5 version better and also very satisfied with mine regarding performance and durability. My X50 rev 5 had fallen several times and still works like a charm.

^ My Rev5, which is a 24/7 in-vehicle detector (through the most blistering Atlanta summers to the coldest Cleveland winters) has also fallen several times ( including being THROWN by my dear, sweet wifey
), and still works like a charm - going on 4 years now.
I cannot testify to others' experiences, but mine does support the claim of many that the Rev5 was a very, very durable and reliable revision.
There is also speculation that filtering was increased between the Rev5 to Rev6 updates, causing the latter to suffer a bit on the extremes of quantitative testing. I'm uncertain if this translates to be true in real-world usage.

You CAN'T get it updated. I just received this email from Escort:
"It is good to hear from you, and sorry for the confusion! Revisions are not only based on software but for us are linked directly to hardware. Any change in components, suppliers, or software changes require a revision. Most revisions are for internal technical support and will not be recognized by the end user. Our Customer Service Department does not keep track of the revision numbers, because they will have no effect on performance or features. I hope that helps.
