Default X50 Test - Does it sweep when you turn the band off?

From what I've seen there has been great controversy and mystery as to whether or not the X50 does the following when you turn a band off in the programming menu

    - The unit continues to sweep the band, but surpresses all alerts
    - The unit ceases to sweep the band, possibly increasing sensitivity of other bands.

I propose a test that might shed some light on this answer.

With all bands activated, someone will measure an X50's detection distance to a specific K band gun. Ka will be turned off, and the distance will be measured again. Since Ka is such a huge band, the sensitivity of K should go up A LOT if the unit is no longer sweeping Ka.

I don't think anybody has done this because nobody had the guts to shut off Ka, but for the purpose of a test, the results should be interesting.

Anyone else think this is a good idea or willing to do the test?

I would like to know this as well.....

Of course Escort has no idea so we'll have to do our own test.

When you program a band OFF, the unit does not sweep that band. Using an oscope you can observe the change in the "sweep" voltage present at the poly cap on the bottom of the unit. Programming Ka OFF for instance changes the sweep voltage dramatically. That can only mean that the unit is not sweeping the band at all.

That's why if I turn Ka band off on my X50, it picks up K band from the moon.

So, for a fact........ the X50 does not sweep a band that has been disabled.
Or at least strong evidence supports that......

I don't think so. But it's either it sweeps it and filters the alert, or it does not. I believe the company will have to answer this question. Unless we have some kind of equipment that detects "detectors" that detects Bands that is given out.

Some kind of equipment that tells us if something is intercepting bands. Then we would know if the radar is detecting it and not telling us because it's filtered

^ i don't know if that made ne sense XD hehe

Several of us have asked the Escort staff and have gotten various answers. There's no way I'm going to believe something a tech support says.

Only way to find out is if we do tests ourselves.

I second that...... Escort Tech Support are not well trained at all.
Chances of you getting an incorrect answer to a advanced question
are very high. I wouldn't really call these people techs but more
customer service. Their there to answer the phone and read off
a sheet that has been prepared for them. You can always ask
for a tech but they will always try to discourage you from talking to
    one.

I'd never heard of anyone doing this or seen/heard of his study in particular until this thread.
