If you are exchanging it within a couple of weeks, they are pretty leinient. I exchanged a lesser detector for my first 8500 within a week of the original purchase, and all I had to do was say I was displeased with the performance of the first unit. Good luck.

Of course the X50 doesn't false nearly as much as the king of all falseshoods, my V1. Don't get me wrong I still love my V1 but I can handle it because I understand. My s/o doesn't and would toss anything that's "nonsense." So the x50 is ok it's just that from time to time, it goes crazy and acts up and ramps up to full alert as if when the source is apparently still far away. I wish it would just beep and beep a little bit here and here and go away. But instead it's so noisy, I can't help but to think.

And it also hesitates meaning it appears to be ignoring the false signal for as long as it can and then it just comes on with medium rate beeps and quickly ramps up to full rate and then quits. So it's trying.

And I like this x50, like I said it will do fine for my motorcycle (will explore exchanging back to Best Buy first). I will put the 9500i in the s/o car and my car will go back to V1. Thanks for all the comments.

Let's disect the differences here. The V1 has 2 antennas and the X50 with 1 antenna only. To match the X50, program the V1 with the arrow down on G to mute any alerts detected by the rear antenna. This set up decreases false alert annoyance that will be equal to the X50. To maximize K band annoyances, set up your V1 to where 7 is arrow down, B is arrow down, C is arrow up, D is arrow up and E is arrow down. This set up will mute the V1 for 30 sec. and the threshold is when 5 LEDs are lit when the front antenna picks up the signal. You will be surprised to see a very signifiant drop with K band annoyances from auto door sensors.

I still find the 9500i to be the quietest of all the RD's i have tested.

ok, so far i have been driving around with x50 everday since i got it. 9500i and v1 are both on my shelf at home, unused.

the x50 is ok. but only ok since it does false more than i think it should (subjective) and sometimes the [short] range that it detects traffic radar is scarey.

i just don't get the false alarm that simulates instant-on radar where 2 or 3 cars in front of your are clocked...then it's your turn and you get a full-alert....this is what happens with a false alarm. seems like x50 is trying to suppress but every now and again it alerts and then finally gives up and goes full-alert when you upon the automatic door.

you rarely if ever get this scenario is my area of kansas so i was surprise to hear that sequence which gave me goosebumps, haven't heard it sent the old days in police states like texas, minnesota, and wisconsin.

anyway, when a police car approaches from 90 degrees, i don't understand how you can look with your eyes and see the cop coming but don't get a signal and then as the cops crosses in front of you perpendicular as you sit at the light, all you get is a cops thank you braps? my v1 would be hollering. i guess it's something i have to get use to standing side by side with a police car and getting a little bit of signal. x50 is way conservative in my mind. but it works so i'm still ok with it, just thought i'd share. i do miss my 9500i so i'll be switching back probably mid-week.

Try it in auto mode. pop off x off if not used in your area. It might wait till your close then act like a IO but might cut down on some of the weak K band openers. You can tun on the auto mute. Just some ideas. Mine picks up more non LEO radar then my RX65 does.

I still don't see how you can compare a V1 to an X50 in falses though.

a list of problems in the V1 over the X50:

The x50 has a "better" automute
the x50 has a button you can hit to silence it completely (nice!)
the x50 doesn't change tones as the signal moves around
the x50 doesn't go crazy with all sorts of flashing arrows everywhere that aren't even very accurate with falses.
The problem isn't with the V1 arrows the problems is with how easily radar is reflected via traffic, signs etc, position or angle of the radar source etc. The Belscort the new M4 antenna are cheaper then the older antenna and performance from one unit to the next is inconsistent. Newer Escort 8500 X50 seems to suffer on 35.5 GHz and K band range is less then my older Escort 8500. Overall Valentine One has the best Ka performance except for 34.7 Ghz. The Valentine One has two antennas for front and rear and any detection from the side is triangular between the front and rear antenna.
