    Default fixing the 8500

well, i have a 8500 and the problem with it seems to be that it will not alert to a source at all, and it will just scream bloody murder on one band like k-band while just sitting in my driveway. i know it has to be sent in but i just hate the though of shelling out all that dough. i have a rx65, so i have a detector that works so i can mess around with the 8500 and not be worried. any thoughts? jim do you know of any special tricks? If it doesn't detect at all, then most likely there is nothing that you're going to be able to do to fix it. The unit is generating an internal spur and that's why it falses in the driveway. Since these units are designed to self calibrate it is obvious that it can no longer do that properly. That in itself indicates that your unit has suffered a component failure and needs to be sent in for repair.

. It sounds like that you may have a bad antenna or broken components or both

what about selling it? or is that a bad idea? what would be a reasonable price for a service required 8500, my friend says he'd like to buy it if i sell it.

. If it's broken your probably not going to get much for it and will have to buy another one? Paying the repair cost will be cheaper then buying another one new or used?

It is $80 plus shipping to repair or Escort will give you $80 (as is) toward the purchase of one of their new products. Your choice. If your friend wants it maybe $50 plus repair costs. IMHO

The 8500 is more to repair than the x50. Which one did you send in. I got that quote last week from Escort directly.
