Default Is the current ZR3 compatable with the older 8500?

I called escort to ask and 1 rep told me Yes, the other rep when i called ask about a software update for my older 8500 told me NO and that there is no software updates unless the unit says 'serv reqd'. My 8500 is circa 2003. Not sure which software version..

I was thinking about buying a new detector. But if my old one is still decent than i cannot justify buying one. So is there a way to determine if the ZR3 is compatable without buying and trying?

    Thanks.

Yes almost all the 8500 work with ZR3 except for some of the first ones. You would have to send it to Escort to get it upgraded for that. But most are compatible, I know Rev 15 def is.
