    Default Broken 8500 x50?

I recently purchased the Escort 8500 x50 from RadarBusters and for the first couple of days it seemed to work without any problems, however now it seems to not function properly.

I'm constantly falsely alerted with random readings and the device will periodically spike X-band, Ka-band and K-band at full level alert and stay that way for around 5-10 minutes or until I reset the device. It doesn't seem to matter where either, it will occur randomly and sporatically. For instance it has occured several times while being parked in my garage, leaving work or driving down the freeway two places of which there were not nor are not any alerts. Since then, my alerts when driving near police cars is very low or non-existent until I get about 30 yards from the source.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is my detector busted and what do y'all recommend? Thanks.

BTW, the detector is direct wire installed to the 12V wire connected to my cigarette adapter. I have the Escort set to monitor via voltage mode to make sure that it's keeping it at a safe level and as per the instruction manual it's keeping it below the maximum value and above the minimum value.

It seems that it is broken. Try powering it with the coiled cord.

I had a similar experience with one of my 8500's(non X50). Twice, KA band was at full alert for a few minutes until I powered it off. After the second time this happened, "Self Cal" appeared on the display. It went through 2 cycles of displaying "Self Cal", luckily no "Service Required" message. I still have the 8500, it works fine the majority of the time.

if you bought it from Roy send it back to him and he will certainly help you out. He treats his customers well, and there is no reason you should be sitting around with a faulty unit....

I had the same thing happening to me. I sent it back to Escort, it came back to me doing the same thing. Disabled POP and all my problems were solved.

Moral of the story, at least for me, is POP On in the city will give you a lot of false alerts.

about a month ago i bought a 8500 x50 and a week later i had a problem with it goin to full alert on all bands and multiple boogies, i returned it to best buy and got another one...then that one got stolen... since then i bought 2 more ( one for me and one for my girl) and mine has taken the same **** again with in 2 weeks, so i returned it and got another and this one didnt last 24hours and it started to give me problems.. this problem normally occurs in the morning when i plug my detector in and last for about 15min. and doesnt matter what vehicle or location.... any ideas.... i called escort and they said maybe a glitch in production but they said they would have been notified..

^ POP-related falsing should be solely/specifically related to the unit reporting a "POP" hit.

If you're seeing undue X, K, and/or Ka "falsing" that's somehow influenced by your POP (or other) settings, then your unit may truly be defective, and it's honestly worth it to get it checked-out by the good guys at Escort.
