    Default No detection

Recently my 8500 x50 does not pick up anything useful. Lately my detector has not gone off when i've passed cops who are gunning me. I pick up plenty of x-band noise in the best buy parking lot but dont pick up the k or ka band they use around here. Any suggestions on what I should try? Also, this unit was purchased in december of 06 through escort.

just remember, it's a radar detector, not a cop detector.

Not all cops have radar and those that do, don't always drive around with it on unless they're specifically going after speeders.

Yes, I am aware of that but why else would a cop be hidden off a major road with his lights off, pointed in my direction. My question is about the radar detection not working. I don't want to make my detector go off when I see a cop at a stop light.

Ya never know, there's pictures somewhere a guy took of a cop sleeping tucked away off the road like that.

Around here they've been known to take police cars and put them places just to make people THINK there's a cop.

He could have been doing some paperwork, could have just pulled in there and had not turn on the radar yet.

Do you know anyone in your area with any K or Ka radar units? Even if it is a Bushnell gun, it will test your K.

or if you have a buddy with another radar detector that you could mount them both up and drive around a bit and see if they're both getting hits.

maybe you were just not his target at that moment.

    or he was doing paperwork.

or he was just sitting there freaking people out (like you) without using radar or laser.

    Couple suggestions.
-I know it sounds silly, but make sure all your bands are turned on.
-Maybe they are very selective at who they shoot.
-Could be using close encounter laser.
    -VASCAR

Are you sure you see actual radar units in their cars?

Or, as you think, your unit could be broken :P

Either way, try resetting it. Hold the three buttons on the detector while you are turning it on.
