Just received my X50, its fcc id is QKLX5M4. I will get the revision # off it later when I install it.

So I just returned by X 50 Rev 5.0 to Best Buy since I could see on the box that they now carried the Rev 6.1 by the FCC code on the side. I have the best buy plan for 2 years if any thing goes wrong they will swap it out with the same or give you 299.99 toward another detector. The X 50 REV 6.1 hardly ever and I mean ever goes off. My X 50 Rev 5.0 would always go off in certain locations to K and Ka, with the Rev 6.1 in 6 of the locations where 5.0 went off 6.1 didnt even make a sound. In addition to this I get constant laser alerts with the 6.1, and 5.0 only went off in a real threat. I must admit the 6.1 makes driving much more comfortable with the new software because it never goes off. I haven’t uncounted a real threat yet so it concerns me if the thing will even protect me. The rev 5.0 saved by butt many of times! Not so sure I shouldn’t swapped it out....
You have to send the rd detector to escort to have it updated? Since there is a phone jack thing(i know, its the power plug, but still) you should be able to plug it in to the phone line and it does its update...that would be cool!!!!
If the FCC ID number is QKL8500, does that mean it's not version 6.1?
You probably have a rev 5. I believe all the 6.1's have a serial # ending in M4. To be sure, hold down the 2 buttons on the top of the unit, and the mute button on the front while powering the unit on. This will display the Rev# briefly.Originally Posted by takk
Ohhh noooo! Now I've got a horrible moral dilemma on my handsOriginally Posted by radarguyus
I bought this X50 off eBay just before xmas, then after discovering this board, decided to get a Bel STi off Roy instead since RDs are illegal here. I didn't even open the X50, thinking I would just re-sell it on eBay.
I listed it on eBay on Saturday and, assuming I had version 6.1 since people who had version 5.0 seemed to have bought theirs years ago, I advertised it as being "the latest version". Now it seems that it might not be. ops: Bidding is going really well too (I thought I was going to take a loss on it, but it's almost up to the price I paid for it, $240, with 4 days still left to go).
Now I'm not sure what to do. See if the buyer notices and if they do, plead ignorance (or just tell the truth) and offer them some money back?
Does an X50 owner need a warranty to get a software version upgrade? If they have to pay for it, does anyone know how much this costs? I'm thinking I could offer to pay for the cost of the upgrade at least.
Most people buying an RD on Ebay have no idea Rev #'s even exist. Escort's upgrade/repair fee for out of warranty units is $80, but escort has yet to upgrade any of their units. Rev 5 users are stuck with it. But my X50 is rev 5, and I tried a 6.1 and still prefer my rev 5. As far as disclosing to the buyer that it's not "the latest and greatest", that's a personal call although I doubt they'll notice.
Next time get it from Roy. Items advertised as "new" are probably dealer buybacks. Below is a related thread about Ebay units having tampered serial #s.

Thanks for the reassurance... I guess it depends on the buyer I get. As for eBay vs Roy... exactly why I immediately turned around and bought from Roy once I was enlightened by you guysOriginally Posted by radarguyus

Just did the replacement plan at bestbuy on my x50 that was fcc id xl8500 and rev 5. The new one is fcc id QKLX5M4 and rev 6.3. Can't tell you if its better or worse yet cause I just got it. Am I the only one with rev 6.3? Do I have thae latest?
