Pardon my ignorance on this but does Escort come out with rev updates for X50 or is this something ultra rare? For example I have 6.1 but now im hearing there is 6.3, so is it possible to upgrade?

You could send it in for a flash update, but it’s really unnecessary. Besides your Rev # is for your specific X50. The Rev# are updates similar to what V1 does but on a smaller scale.

so if you have rev5 and send it in, they won't upgrade it to rev 6.3? :?:

Apparently not, since it's different hardware and not just a software update.

Default mounting- rear visibility and smart chord question

Have an x50 Rev 5 that i mount just behind the rearview mirror but i think the RVM is blocking the eye for rear detection. Does the eye for the rear need to be unobstructed? my vehicle has a very steep sloping windsheild so mounty low makes it unreachable while driving.

When i make the display dark, i thought you are suppose to see the power lights and indication of radar on the smart chord. I don't get any lights but i know the chord is working since the mute button works. any info?

Your post has nothing to do with the 8500 x50's firmware, so it should have been posted in a new thread or at least a different one. Nonetheless I will answer your questions. It is important for you to understand that your x50 has no such thing as an eye for rear RADAR detection. You could put a wall in between your detector and the back window, and SO LONG AS THE FRONT IS UNOBSTRUCTED, your radar sensitivity will NOT be compromised. The rear lens that you are speaking of is for LASER only and to be quite frank, is not really worth the parts put into making it, IMHO.

thanks for that. I will post in a different forum next time. One (or 2) last question though. Do i have rear radar detection anyway? and what about the lights on the smart chord, how are they activated? it didnt work for me in dark-stealth mode.

You do not have rear radar detection in the way that V1's have it. V1's have a DEDICATED and SEPARATE rear radar antenna along with arrows to indicate to you which direction the signal is coming from. Your x50, however, will still alert you to signals that are coming from behind you as a result of the radar waves bouncing off of things in front of your vehicle and coming back into its antenna. If I am standing behind your car with a radar gun in hand and clock you as you are going away from me, you should still get a full meter, or close to it. As for the lights on the smart cord, I can't help you.

Response from Escort regarding my questions about revisions and performance:

    I hope that helps.
