Before I begin my first post I would like to say how much I enjoy reading the posts off this website and how informative it is. This website helped me make my decision in purchasing a Bel 895 a year ago, but now I'm looking to upgrade.
What made me want to upgrade was the short warning time I was getting with the 895. I don't think there is anything wrong with it, but last week I ran into a LEO with constant K band on in front facing perpendicular to me as I was driving straight down the road and the 895 first alerted me maybe .2-.3 miles and when I passed right by it ramped up only 4 bars. And there was one instance a while back where I faced an LEO outside his car with a KA gun...not sure if it was instant on or anything like that and I only got an alert of 1 Ka bar on the way back to Houston from Austin on I-71. For the most part the Bel 895 stays pretty quiet on these trips…a little too quiet if you ask me.
I live in Houston and do most of my traveling to Austin and then back and forth. With a summer job, I have some, but very little of my own spending money in my pocket and would like to invest in one of the big 3.
I watched some of the X50 videos posted on here from madmax31, kpatz, and Azonehits. I love the range and ramp up it gets and the X50 is better suited in my price range than a V1 is even though I did entertain the idea of getting a V1. After reading through a couple of posts about the X50 here are my concerns:
1.) Rev 6.1/6.3 vs. Rev 5. How bad is Rev 6 compared to 5? I’ve read about how the new X50’s lag in warning time compared to the 5 and have only seen this example once in a video where the 6.1 and the 5 were put right next to each other. Also, I’ve read how Escort switched to a cheaper, more cost efficient production method for the 6.1’s. I would love to hear anyone’s opinions and comparisons especially if they have owned both and if anything there should be tests done against the Rev 6.1 vs. Rev 5. If there have been tests of the differences between the two please enlighten me.
2.) Where to purchase? I know a Rev 5 is probably impossible to find other than e-bay. If the Rev 5 is as good as everyone says I’m tempted to pull the trigger and do some impulse buying on e-bay. I know e-bay is hit and miss and you should shop wisely, but I had a good experience off of e-bay as I have purchased my 895 and have had no problems with it. I would purchase a brand new one from an authorized seller, but there has been a good about of criticism to Rev 6.1. However, if the 6.1 isn’t as bad as everyone says it is, I would consider purchasing from Roy or Best Buy. Both Roy and Best Buy are authorized resellers so no warranty would be voided correct?
3.) X50 vs 895. Would I be better off just staying with the 895 rather than getting the X50? I know that’s like comparing apples to oranges since the 895 once retailed for $200 (I know it got down to as low as $129.99 at Radio Shack) while the X50 retails at $299. Will there be a noticeable difference in warning times and sensitivity?
I know it’s a long first post, but I thought I’d just make it count. Thanks to all who took the time to read it!
