Default Post pictures of your detector hard wired here

Particularly, I'm curious where most people put the mute/light controller in their cars. I'm still deciding on where to put it in my Mustang..

it fits perfectly in my 02 honda accord's dummy slot here. it is just held in by friction, but if your car had something similar either velcro or adhesive could work.

I know, I know, the floor of the vehicle and the mats are filthy....our winter was harsh, and this picture was taken soon after the thaw a few months back. ops:

    Anyway

    Yellow ovals highlight items of-interest.

    Working top-to-bottom....

My x50 is placed to the left of the inside RVM. This placement has the lens peeking out just under the tint band, and it lets the detector sit close to my line-of-sight, which is a personal preference of mine.

Aside: for the eagle-eyed, atop my steering wheel is what appears to be a bright silver circle - that's just the reflection from the lens on my TurboXS Knock and Shift light.

And here's a close-up of the center console:

In the center stack, just to the lower left corner of the dual gauges (AEM UEGO wide-band O2 gauge, AutoMeter SportComp II voltmeter ( apologies for the displaced voltmeter, you can see it's not yet secured in the custom "Cubbypod" - I'd taken this picture before finalizing my installation - the same can be seen in the gap between my shift-boot and the base of my shift-lever ops: ), you'll see the dual-mode LED indicators for my LPP units. The one at the top correlates to the control-box that ties in the front units, the one at the bottom is for the rear.

This setup, while it offers easy "at-a-glance" notification that my LPPs are all working properly, unfortunately fails to provide ready "real-life road-use" readout of exactly WHICH end of the vehicle is being threatened (as the LEDs are spaced too closely to each other) - and is the reason why I use a ZR3/x50 combo...to tell me if I'm being shot-at with LIDAR from the front or rear.

For those of you unfamiliar with the x50/ZR3 combo, the integration of the ZR3 threat display into the x50's screen shows distinct "F" vs "R" threat warnings when the ZR3 receives ("F/R LASER") - and subsequently attempts to jam ("F/R SHIFTING") - incoming LIDAR.

Now, if you look in my main instrument cluster (first picture), you'll see the ZR3's actual control unit at its lower right corner. I keep that visible as during vehicle start, the control unit will show a visual front-to-rear check of the heads (not shown on the x50, even after integration). This indicator then blanks-out as the signal and controls are shunted to the x50.

The ZR3/x50 remote mute is surface-mounted just under the driver's side HVAC control. This is located next to my right knee, which is convenient in that it offers me proprioceptive location of the mute button for easy night-time use.

Immediately below and just to the right of that, you'll see the LPP controls. As I mentioned before, I have two control boxes: one for the dual-head unit up-front, one for the single-head out-rear - the controls are mounted side-by-side, front - rear.

The red LED is a "pilot light" to help me better locate these controls at-night, should I need to deactivate/mute their alerts (the use of the x50/ZR3 integration also helps in this regard, as it consolidates my controls, making my reaction to LIDAR threats - i.e. drop-to-PSL/reasonable - a bit quicker), since these are outside of my natural proprioceptive space.

The panel that the controls mount to is just the top half of a plastic project enclosure from RadioShack, cut-down slightly in width so as to fit into my ashtray. This entire cubby, which houses the ashtray and the cigarette lighter (that round knob to the right of the controls) is on a factory hindged door that hides that entire area from view when closed.

I apologize for the shoddy/blurry night-time picture here, but I hope you'll see what I mean by the use of proprioception - as well as the pilot-light:

The yellow circle at the top is one of the LEDs for the LPP, lit. The blanked (it reads "--- ") gauge to the right of that is my AEM UEGO wideband O2, for visual reference.

The yellow circle at the bottom is the pilot-light LED for the LPP controls. It's actually not that bright - especially as I've now also got it shielded from the passenger with a home-made "visor."

closer on the mute button box......... green dot

sorry, cell sucks in low light, ill get better ones with the digi cam later, but theres the function box for the G meter unit

all units are wired indirectly to the deck remote wire via SPDT relay wired to the battery

ummm... NO, if I did that 1st off the control box couldnt be away from the cig lighter, and the wire would look ALOT straighter

that wire you see is routed to my PDA, which I use for GPS

im not that tacky on my permanant installs, the PDA comes with me every time I leave the car, so the wire goes away, and ive since routed it back to center because its just easier that way

    Arashi,

Do you have two different mute boxes?

Also, how do you have the mute box staying on your gauge cluster?

    1) While it may appear that way... no, the 2nd one down by the E-brake handle is for my G meter, its used to change the mode on it, and as a power LED as well

    2) if you mean how its staying there, then the answer is that Escort gives you some velcro pads to do it, 1 side for the box and 1 side for the mounting surface................ if you meant how I got it there, well then I started fy tapping power from the stereo directly, then took off the blsck cover bezel thing, then ran it to the top of it, stuck it there put it back together with all the wires tucked, and straight on to the RD
