Default Where to mount 8500 X50?? Please Advise a newbie...

I just got my 8500 X50 Blue. Finally saved the cash. I was curious where everyone HERE recommends mounting it, on dash, windshield (how high-Low). I'm in Texas so it can be in plain sight. I see alot of people who put it directly on the Dash, up against the windshield somewhat below the wiperblade. There doesn't seem to enough room, seems aweful close to wiper. My Ford Escape barely has enough gap between the wiperblade and the black strip on the bottom of the wind shield. Does being that close to the wiperblade hurt range and or performance??

    Default Hot Topic

Well guess it is time again to fight over perhaps the most hotly debated topic on this forum (been only two weeks)

Here is my take on the subject:

Does anyone here mount their 8500 X50 in that (tight) space completely up against the windshield directly on the dash just below the wiperblade??? If you have a Ford Escape you know what I mean when I say TIGHT space.
Also anyone here from DFW Texas. What Radar is the most commonly used and where?? Thanks in advance.

    Default high or low

I wondered about this too. I've mounted high above the rear view mirror. This is good for picking up radar but horrible for laser. The problem that I saw mounting low is that if officers are targeting your car correctly with laser by hitting your front license plate or headlight you just got a ticket anyway. Maybe your x50 alerted you to pull over and receive your ticket maybe it didnt. I've also read that mounting high gives you at least a chance to pick up some reflection from a car ahead of you being targeted with laser. My personal preference is I want to know what Radar is ahead of me and I want the longest possible notice. At least around here Laser isnt as common as getting hit with KA. Once I see Laser being a problem Im going for a Jammer. I'm sure there are a lot of others on the board with a lot more experience than I in this topic, this is just what I have gathered from reading around.

    Default X50 mounting

    David,
I have an 05 full size Ram pickemup. I have my X50 mounted between the wiper blades and the black strip. I too have a narrow space in this location. What I did was remove my entire wiper and rotate it counter clockwise, one click "up" on the wiper motor "stub". This gave me plenty of room for the detector to "see" clearly ahead. It also enables me to detect laser hits about 75% of the time now. Not bad for a full size truck.
(I do use Veil). It does not diminish radar performance in this position either. Roy is right. Hope this helps.

    Default General Opinion

On this topic, there is NO GENERAL Opinion.

I do get a kick out of the debate however, seems everyone has tired from the last 20 on this same subject. Maybe I wore them down???
