I'm planning to buy my first radar detector this coming week. I've used this site to research a good bit on peoples' experiences with each of the major leading RDs and Radar Roy's own experiences.
I'm planning on buying an Escort 8500 X50 (blue :twisted but I was wondering if the 9500i is worth it just yet. I've read a good bit about it (good and bad) and I know it's still 'evolving' as far as software and updates go.
I've heard about the ramp problems and I have to admit I believe that would annoy me. It appears to be more quiet in general and I do like the new features like GPS and lockout as well as the speedometer feature. I do wish they had a 9500i in blue though.. I guess its a matter of time for that though!
I live in the NC area, mostly commuting from my apartment to work (Charlotte to Huntersville) or home (Charlotte to Indian Trail/Monroe). I don't have any friends with RDs (yeah, that'll change once I get one and show it off though) so I don't know what band they use in this area but from what I've heard it is mostly K/Ka with some laser here and there. I-85/I-485/I-77 and the Charlotte area in general are always loaded with LEOs, so I really want to get an RD asap.
I was just wondering what the good, bad, and ugly (or beautiful? ) of the x50 were to people as well as the 9500i. I could go either way (x50 or 9500i) but I'm somewhat leaning towards the x50 (maybe it's the blue  ). Also, I drive a white 2000 Buick Century, does anyone know about the RF noise in that car? I know a few posts below there is (or was) a post about Subarus having pretty bad RF noise and that (possibly) causing falses.
