    Default Laser falsing?

My friend and I both own Escort detectors. I own the X50 Rev 5, and he owns a 9500i. A few weeks back, while in a parking lot, his 9500i began to false laser. It falsed about 3 times before he powered the unit down. He told me the RD has done this only once or twice. I thought nothing of it.

Yesterday, while pulling my RD down after parking my car, MY x50 falsed Laser. Then it happened again while I was driving (not sure if it was a false though, but made no contact with any LEO's).

The only thing our vehicles have in common is the engine, and our CD players. We both own a Pioneer MP3 CD player. Is it possible that our CD players leak a laser signal? There was absolutely no way I was being hit with laser while parking.

    Ideas, comments, or any suggestions?

Where was the remote, if any, to your CD-deck at the time of the falsing episodes?

I'm wondering if the remote's IR-LED may have something to do with this.

Also, how's the detectors wired? Maybe the deck is inducing some noise in your electrical systems? If you think that this is a possibility, give this thread a look-see:

In terms of the parking lot/deck, if you guys also share that in-common, was there any recently installed neon and/or LED-type lighting in the area, or even anti-intrusion/theft monitoring devices? And to pursue an outside possibility in this respect, also, during these falses, are you encountering any late-model vehicles with laser-based active safety and/or cruise-control systems?

    Hope this helps!

My x50 started doing this in more than one of my cars. Restting it sometimes stopped it for awhile. it is long out of warranty. I called Escort to see what it would cost to fix it. Escort said they would update the software for $80 and implied that would fix it. So I put the $80 toward a Valentine instead. No sense throwing good money after bad.

my x50 always falses because of my tmobile sidekick3. i have never had any other of my phones do it, but depending on where the phone is in my car(or if i am using it) the x50 may false laser. and i have confirmed that is what causes it

We both have lost our remotes. Detectors are regularly wired with coiled chords. He's got Security..I do not. I have LED blue Lights in the back of my car, he does not.

    Suggestions?

^ :? :?: No other ideas that come to mind, right-off-the-top.

However, you'd mentioned that your respective vehicles share the same engine - how far apart are your two vehicles' years-of-manufacture?

Give the cigarette lighter/12-V accessory socket a good cleaning ( don't forget to also clean your "plugs," too, since both of you have obviously already used the detectors ), and see if that helps. On older vehicles, the socket itself could have accumulated some dirt/grime over the years, and may even have some loose contacts - or even loose physical structure, due to the years of road-use (this latter concern presented itself with my '95 TSi) - the latter issues will require access-to and disassembly of the physical receptacle to correct, of course, so I wouldn't undertake that as a primary troubleshooting task.

Also, try running your detector (and his, too, if the 9500i has this feature - which I can't remember if it does or not) on the voltmeter mode, and see if either of you can correlate the laser false with either a voltage spike or dip.

Here's some ideas for you..... There are several things that can make a detector false laser. I have experienced and verified all these below.
I doubt that it was your CD player, More likely your electrical system.

    1. Emergency vehicles with there lights flashing.

    2. The Sun reflecting off your Hood. ( High Mounts )

    3. A noisy electrical system.

You can help reduce the noisy electrical system by buying one of
these. ( RFI Ferrite Choke Core ) from Radio Shack.

Before I bought one of these, every time I blew my Horn my laser would false.

It does, I was troubleshooting some electrical system issues in my car with it.

I wasn't getting laser falses from that though, I don't think I've gotten a laser false yet, I'm actually kind of wanting to just so I can know what the noise is like.

Default Bad Driver + Horn = LASER ALERT

I just discovered last night that every time I blow my horn it sets of the laser alert. So I'm assuming it's a noisy electrical system. I will check out one of those chokes's to see if it fixes the problem.

    ^ Thanks!

^ Try various household-electronics' remote-controls. Anything with an IR-LED. With the number of items in the typical American household that have remotes attached, it's more than likely that one will wind up triggering a response from your 9500i's laser sensor.
