Default Bad News : I got a speeding ticket with 9500i

Bad news , i was speeding in my car and i saw a stationary camera ( K band ) i was above th speeding limit , These stationary camera are some times switched on and some time they are switched off , so i was waiting for the 9500i to alert me , but it alerted me very late almost a second before i was flashed by the camera

The 9500i was properly kept on the dash board and not mounted on the windshield as radardetector is illegal in my country

what could have gone wrong ? this is the first radar detector i had bought , is there some kind of settings i have to change in order to make it detect K band from a long distance?

I am just stabbing in the dark here, but the owner's manual says the unit must be in contact with the glass for best use. That might have cost you.

    That's really strange...

The only setting for "detecting distance" (I think it's better worded as 'sensitivity' -- meaning you get an alert) is the sensitivity mode. Were you in Auto, Highway, or City mode?

Most of the time I use Highway mode, even if I am in a town or so, just so I can get every alert possible. If I start to get a supreme number of K falses (automatic doors) I'll switch to Auto mode, but that's a rare occasion.

While we don't have speed cameras here in NC (or at least not in the areas I travel) so I don't really watch out for them; however, we do have LEOs that like to sit in parking lots and camp it out on low traffic roads.

You had it mounted on the dash against the glass or just sitting on the dash?

Aren't these cameras set to go off at almost the last minute, like instant on?

The reason why I ask is that near my house, we have a radar activated traffic light that runs on X-band. For years, any detector we had wouldn't go off until you were almost in the intersection.

I'm guessing that he went up against one of those low-powered radar cameras, like thestaton suggested. Having it on the dash, if I'm reading correctly, probably didn't help much either. Maybe you could try mounting it on it's side? I hear that works for some photo radars.

Is there a performance difference between mounting it against the glass vs on the visor?

Chances are that the camera didn't use radar at all, but embedded road sensors.

The stationary photo enforcement cameras on the 101 Scottsdale and on numerous other roads in the Phx area do not use radar or laser. They all use road sensors....

Nothing will detect them, you just need to know their location and program them into your 9500 as an enforcement location
