I wanted to pick your minds on this subject. I recently came back from a drive on I-10 in South Louisiana. I had an over-the-hill encounter with a couple State Troopers.
My new 8500 X50, not even a month old, sounded off **ONLY** when I reached the top crest of the hill coming downward. A very loud Ka band alert sounded off.
But... to my disappointment, I already seen the 2 Smokey's by the time the 8500 X50 went off, and I'd say that I'd have been real eligible to received a speeding ticket.
Is this unit not functioning properly, because of the late warning?
How about all the rest of you who regularly and routinely travel in rolling hills? Do you have this problem?
I mean, I purchased the unit to warn me of such speed traps, by back-scatter from refractions (bounce-off) off the other side of the hill that I would have expected the X50 to pick up on.
I'm disappointed because I really believed in this product after spending hours and days of reading-up.
There were several times, about 5 times, when I was in the New Orleans area and seen different city police in the sub-urbs and the detector never went off.
I mean 1 or 2 times is forgiven as they may not have had radar turned on. But all 5 times?? No alert?
I did another test. I aimed the unit right forward facing to automatic doors about just 50 ft. away----strong K band alert received.
Then I faced the front of it 180 degrees away from the auto doors and I received just one slow K alert.
I thought it's supposed to be 360 degree detection? At only 50 ft away, I'd expect a very strong K alert even when the front of the unit is turned away from the auto doors.
How do your units respond to over-the-hill detection? Do you all get more advanced warning, BEFORE you see the cop, during over the hill situations?
I"m wondering if I need to get a V1 for better results & protection...?
