Default Escort Passport 8500 X50-Ebay-Seller says serial number...

Escort Passport 8500 X50-Ebay-Seller says serial number is removed.

I was driving my second car today without the detector and am sure that I was shot by radar, and can't take another chance. There were two cops standing on the sidewalk with a radar or laser gun in hand (not sure the way either looks). As I passed I see them look at the gun and continue talking. I didn't see any cop cars down the road so it mist be some cops set to take the average and not a speed trap.

I'm in need for another detector and wanted to know what the radardetector.net group thinks about it.

Two things that come to mind; the serial # is removed, and the seller says it has version 6.1. Isn't the latest version 5?

Other side questions: Is the $4 sunviser mount practical?

He seems to be selling Beltronics radar detectors too; How do these compare to the Passport 8500 X50 performance wise?

    Thanks for reading.

Do not Buy chances are the detector is broken. Also if the serial # is removed you will have trouble getting it serviced. Buy new from an authorized dealer.

The Beltronics Rx-65 is basically the same unit as the X50 but with different looks....

Do they both have the same exact features such as distance, the option to view 8 bans...?

They're very similar but by no means are they identical (more like fraternal twins).

Both units have: display options "Highway", "H", or voltage display; frequency display (Spec or Tech display), City Std/LoX/NoX, Automute on/off, individual band on/off, standard/fast power-on sequence.

X50 has what RX65 doesn't: scanning dot/plus sign display options, two different sets of alert tones (Std and Loud), true dark mode, Expert display which can show 4 X/2 K/2 Ka threats at once.

RX65 has/X50 doesn't: Voice alerts, Ku band and SWS. Threat display shows 1 X/1 K/1 Ka at once.

Alert tones are different between the two units. X50 uses Escort alert tones, while RX65 uses Beltronics alert tones. Ramp-up and sensitivity on different bands varies between the two as well (RX65 tends to be stronger on Ka and weaker on K, the opposite for X50). X50 ramps up better and goes to a solid tone on strong threats. RX65 has an "instant-on" warning that flashes the display and plays a solid tone for a couple seconds when it detects IO.

X50 uses a thumbwheel on/off/volume control. RX65 uses a pushbutton volume and power.

If you've used one, you'll find the other very similar and equally intuitive. The programming mode works the same on both.

Just curious SpdFreak, what's your other detector?

Latest versions for the X50 are either 6.1 or 6.3.

DO NOT BUY A UNIT WITHOUT A SERIAL. Chances are these units are refurbished or tampered with. Good luck trying to get Belscort to try adn service your unit without a serial.

I would just buy from an authorized dealer like Roy or directly from Belscort. I was going to do that until I saw a rev 5 on E-bay from an individual and jumped on it.

If money is kinda tight for you, you could buy on e-bay or craigslist but be careful.

I vote X50. I like the X50's ramp up better than any of the Bel's and don't really need the voice alerts. The scanning dot and blue display are definitely growing on me.

My current detector is the Passport 8500 X50.

Yes, money is tight when you don't plan on spending it on a detector, but it's deffinetly tighter when you get a ticket.

I would rather not buy a used detector from ebay, as I will most likely have to send it in to the company for an update, which will cost around the $50 range.

I'm undecided about where to get it and need more input on the subject.

Thanks for the help and please keep it coming.

PS. Am I alowwed to post ebay item numbers?

When the detectors are sold without the serial numbers they are also removing the FCC ID number, which is a federal violation

There are several criminal cases pending regarding this practice
