    Default Escort Solo S2 Experiences

Just wondering if anyone has an experience using the Solo S2 Cordless detector from Escort. I know being cordless hurts your range on radar but I am just thinking about getting one. I already have the X50 and could use another detector. I will either get another X50 or a Solo S2.
Give me your advice on this and any experiences...

Videos of the Solo S2 would be cool to see...I haven't found any yet.

Get another X50. If you're going to spend that kind of money, get something that's going to work. I'm not saying the Solo's don't work, but you'll be happier with another X50 than you would be with a Solo.

i agree with arvetus. i have a solo s2 and it served me great, many tickets avoided. it has excelent range, even though i really have nothing to compare it to, but if ur gonna spend that kind of money go for a X50 hard wired. my s2 is hard wired. i never ran it on batteries only, cause all it leaves on is a tiny blinking green led on the face, which is very hard to see in any light condition. the lcd screen is very hard to read in bright light, so i have to rely on the sound alert, which isnt hard, given the fact that escorts alerts are the best: very distinct for each band.

overall the s2 is excelent, but if you have the opportunity to get a corded RD go for it

    hope this info helps

All cordless detectors are junk don't buy them. Your better off having no detector at all as the range sucks on all of them.

I use a cordless up here ( easier to hide ) and the range is very good except on Ka band. (Only Good on Ka)
For $150.00 it does the job. Cops up here use mostly K band, and some Ka and X. It still gives ample warning on Ka, just not as good as my Bel 985.

So you're statement that all cordless RD's are junk is questionable... :?

    Hi All,
I just got back from two weeks in the UK, and packed my S2 for ease of use in rental cars.
    Two big problems.
Most of the time there was no alert to Gatso speed cameras (backstabbers in the UK) until I was past the camera (in range!) when the Solo went instantly to solid K alert. Occasionally I got a light sporadic alert from reflections off the back of vehicles in front.
Secondly, the 'grade' of the alert is decieving, Quite low strength signals give a solid alert so it is not as intuitive as several other detectors I have used. I was using the dector cordless, perhaps it might have been better with a smart cord (I dont have one)
In retrospect, I should have used my V1. I didn't get booked, but I felt very insecure and eventually dispensed with using the detector at all.
I could not recommend this product for use against Gatso speed cameras.

When I used it in the US recently, it was okay against police radar (no lidar encounters) but the signal ramping problem was a pain, as was the KA falses from crap detectors.

On a slightly separate topic, does anyone know what frequency the truckers in Europe use (like CB)? Certainly nothing I could pick up on a 40 channel UHF CB.
    Regards
    Lee
