    Default Is my 8500 dead?

In June I got caught on my bike in a torrential downpour which damaged my 8500. After everything dried off, it still picked up radar fine and was well loud enough for me, but with no display (blue). I didn't mind, since I couldn't look at the display when riding (earphones were adequate) and in the car, having it always dark is good in VA too. Anyway, yesterday it started giving me a quick double chirp about every 5 seconds and won't stop. Since I have no display, I can't see what kind of code or readout it's giving. Does this mean my RD is really dead now? Would it be cheaper to buy another or mail this one off to Escort for repair?

Double chirp means service required. Sometimes you can reset it and it'll work again, but will more than likely come back. At least that's what mine would do. This went on for months before it finally just died and wouldn't restart at all. It'll cost you $80 to send it back to Escort for repair.

Geeze, $80 is nothing. Is that for total repair or just the service indicated by the double chirp? Of course, I'd like to have my display fixed while it's there too.

When I sent mine back they told me it was a flat $80 charge and they'd fix whatever was wrong. I don't know if they'll be able to tell the display died from moisture or not.

I just called them and they said $59.95. I never get this lucky. They said it will take about 10 days. I guess I'll have to rely on my Solo S2 for a while. I'll mail it in tomorrow. So relieved.

Yep, for 59.95 they will fix everything that is wrong with the Unit.
They will even replace the case for you if it's scratch.
