Default My 8500 x50 install pictures

Here are some pix of my new hard install in my '01 mustang gt. I tried to mount as in the middle of the windshield and as high as possible without being restricted by the rear view mirror. I tried to get the escort display right below my rear view. What do you all think of the install and the placement?

Only problem I see with that is the rear sensor is blocked by the rvm. I mounted mine above the rvm and the rear sensor isn't blocked but suffers range badly. If I put my radar detector back in I will put it low enough just to the rear sensor has a good view of the rear. I just recieved a hardwire kit for it. I'm still trying to thigure out a way for my parents to accept the fact I have a rd because they dont know about it. I think they would be mad so I have always hid it from them but am tired of putting it up and down.

blowthemup, the rear sensor you are talking about (the little hump you see on top of your X50) is a Rear Laser Sensor. Unfortunately, the only detector that has a rear facing radar antenna is the V1. However, the X50 does a good job on picking up rear radar when it is reflected off of something so the front antenna picks it up and alerts you.

You might have poor range because you mounted it high above the rearview mirror. Is your X50 mounted behind the tint band from your windshield? If so, that may affect detection, although some people say it doesn't really affect it much.

joey_corleone, I see nothing wrong with your setup in the pictures. It looks great. I have my X50 mounted around the same area in my car, right underneath the rearview mirror.

I didn't know that the rear sensor was for laser. In that case I could care less. No it's not behind the tint strip. I was saying that my rear detection wasnt that great being high but I need to do a little for testing to make sure. k band from automatic doors is going to have a weaker signal so I wont detect it until really close right? I will get a false k from this one spot but it will beap one or twice stop and then go almost full alert.

I wouldnt worry about rear detection. If a cop is behind you shooting radar it is going to go past your car (assuming he isnt targeting you directly) hit something in front of you and then it has to come back towards the front of you car anyway and your rd will pick it up. So who really cares how good read detection is. Just keep your eyes open and check your RVM and you will be fine. You dont drive backwards down the highway do you??

    The install does look good.

As for driving down the interstate backwards I would have to do some practice to spin the car around and put in reverse without messing anything up. For me that is nearly impossible, especially with my car. So no I dont...lol
